I have been a member @ Allstar since December and was impressed at first. But what is with the frequency of things being broken? The saunas out, a bathroom, the scale and a few of the machines upstairs!!

I have yet to go there for 30 consecutive visits without something being broken down.

I politely brought this up to the gal at the front desk and her reply was that they have a maintenance request sheet, but what good is this sheet unless maintenance actually pays attention to it?

I love the gym when it is functional – so I hope they get their act together or I just may have to ask for a refund.

I have been a member of Allstar for almost two years. Honestly I am impressed not only by their staff but the cleanliness of the gym. The crew there is always cleaning the machines and making sure there is sanitizer water. I have visited other gyms like 24 hour fitness, Bally’s, and Fitworks and have been repulsed by the lack of cleanliness. The 24 Hour Fitness in Renton has 2 cleaning stations for the whole gym and the spray bottles were always empty!!!! Disgusting! Often times All Star has to wait for parts to come for the manufacturer to fix the machines; they just don’t have spare parts laying around. When I was working out with my trainer, the decline press was broken. The next day it was fixed. The sauna i’m not sure about, but there are bathrooms on every floor. If one is out just go to the next! I think All Star rocks!

We left Allstar because 1) the pool was always way too cold, despite frequent complaints-they claim the lap swimmers like this but it is significantly lower than any other local pool. Children would be blue 15 minutes into lessons and I was cold after 15 minutes of water AEROBICS! 2) They were not following recommendations regarding pool maintainence-as a nurse, I did not want my child swimming in there anyway. Management never responded to any complaints nor those of other members and staff that I am aware complained.

Their pool maintenance is the worst, and their lifeguards are unsafe. WHen I was a member there crap was always breaking- there was a huge chunk of wall missing in the women’s lockeroom FOREVER, and I know you don’t need to order special equipment to patch that up and paint it. At one point I think only half of the treadmills worked in the women’s gym. I’m much happier now that I don’t have to deal with that place!

Yep, their pool maintenance is terrible, but I can’t really speak for the rest of the gym since I didn’t utilize it much. I think it was two summers ago that the heater broke and they didn’t fix it for an entire month so the pool was probably 72 degrees max, when most are kept at 83. The hot tub was often closed too. Their staff seem more concerned about signing up members than keeping the current ones happy.

While I agree AllStar has its short comings I think it offers pretty good value… I’m paying about $40/month. They have an indoor pool, good weight equipment, just bought brand new cardio machines, and offer a variety of “free” spin, yoga and kick boxing classes. I used to belong to Pro Club in Bellevue and while everything there is top notch it cost three times as much.

Granted I don’t know much about pools and haven’t been swimming long but the temp feels very comfortable if not a bit on the warm side. I sometimes swim at Mercer Island and their pool is way too warm… I’m sweating before I even get in.

The lifeguards do concern me, but that is managements fault. The lifeguards need to be watching the pool and not doing maintenance chores.

I agree with SA. I use the women’s gym section and never have to wait to use a machine. I feel welcomed and challenged in the classes. I don’t use the pool, but it does seem to be out of commission quite a bit.

I recently became a member there, and really like it. Granted, I am NOT picky as long as I have a treadmill and a couple machines. As with WSMom, every time I go into the “ladies” section it’s uncrowded and comfortable.

Yes, the staff is generally unfriendly at best and I am certainly not utilizing enough classes or the pool, but for a gym it does the job.

My complaint…CHANGE the music! It drives me nuts.

I really like AllStar. I can’t comment on the pool, the sauna, or the group x classes. I mainly stay in the Women’s workout area, which is almost always uncrowded. Only once have I had to go up to the coed room for an available elliptical. I’ve never had to wait for a weight machine. My minor complaints are that some of the dumbbells and floor mats in the Women’s weight area have seen much better days, and I have to go up to the coed room for the inner/outer thigh machines (of which women probably make up 99% of the users :-p ). I’m very impressed with how clean the workout areas are kept. I’m always seeing staff wiping down machines, sweeping the floor, and restocking towels. (However, the TVs could use a good wipedown.) The women’s locker room is a lot more spacious than other gyms I’ve been to. I never have a problem finding a big locker. Most of the front desk staff aren’t super cheery, but they’re always pleasant to me, at minimum. The new Emerald City Smoothie bar is a nice addition. If I ever move out of WS, AllStar will be one of the first things I’ll miss.

I don’t use the pool, but I really enjoy the rest of the gym. If I time my workouts, I never have a problem get some sort of machine.

It is much cleaner than other gyms and I enjoy the flexibility that I also can work out downtown.

Also, Kudos to Andre, one of the trainers. He is great!

I’ve complained several times about the condition of the shower area in the ladies locker room. I swim there regularly so I need to shower after. The ceiling and the walls of the showers have mold on them. The vents are covered in dust as well as the ceiling in the locker area. I won’t go in there without wearing flip flops and I try not to touch any of the surfaces. They just don’t seem to care.

The pool can be cold at times, but I don’t think it’s because the lap swimmers want it that way. We don’t like it either.

There aren’t too many places in West Seattle to lap swim. Southwest Comm Center did away with their evening adult swim time and even though I haven’t tried it, I hear the pool at the Y isn’t too great. So where else is there to go?

Hmmm….I love the fact that the pool is cooler than most! Most city pools are too warm if you are in for a long swim.

I am not a ‘gym person’…in fact, I generally hate them. Allstar is the first gym I have actually enjoyed. The pool isn’t crowded which I really appreciate as circle swimming with 3-4 others is NOT fun. The equipment is always available. The daycare staff are sweet to our baby. The cleaning staff are always friendly and replenshing towels and wiping things down.

The classes all seem fun, though I have only gone to spinning classes. Most of the spin instructors are great (Jeoff, Stacy, Laura & Ed are fabulous!). Well, all are good with the exception of 1 or 2 who I’ll leave nameless that are pretty snarky, pissy, and punitive. But there are so many classes it is fairly easy to avoid them!

One thing I don’t like is where the membership coordinators sit—when entering the women’s locker room you feel like you are being watched/observed/checked out/judged etc. I wish it was blocked off in some way.

    I like it there!
