Current propaganda efforts that remind you of the insanity detailed in “the hunting of a president”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunting_of_the_President

ie: the “Clinton Body Count” insanity.

Republican will claim these are from the fringes and yet… we can be sure some of our neighbors believe them with the same fervor they believed the previous decades demonization.

When the entire party is taken over by the fringes, it’s time to get out if you are brave enough to use your own brain.

    http://www.sadlyno.com/archives/10015.html

Her is an excerpt from the current crazies email

GANDY BAUGH – Attorney for Obama friend Antonin Rezko died by falling out an eightieth story window of the Hancock Tower, January, 2003. His client was a convicted Chinese spy.

and one from the Clinton Body Count:

Gandy Baugh jumped out of a window of a multi-story building and died on January 8, 1994. Published reports say he was defending a man named Dan Lassater in a financial misconduct case. Lassater was an associate of Bill Clinton’s who was convicted of cocaine distribution.

    And snopes sez:

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/bodycount.asp

Gandy Baugh died on 8 January 1994 at home. Although causes weren’t specified, it’s safe to assume people who jump out of tall buildings either die on the spot or in the hospital, not at home.

Also note the snopes link explains the stupidity step by step of the original CBC email smear.

    From Snopes:

This Clinton “body count” list is not a new phenomenon multiple versions have been circulating for years. New victim names are routinely added and old ones taken off, forming an endless variety of permutations. At this point, there is no one “official” list.

But where did all this craziness start? In 1994, in a letter to congressional leaders, former Rep. William Dannemeyer listed 24 people with some connection to Clinton who had died “under other than natural circumstances” and called for hearings on the matter.

Dannemeyer’s list of “suspicious deaths” was largely taken from one compiled by Linda Thompson, an Indianapolis lawyer who in 1993 quit her year-old general practice to run her American Justice Federation, a for-profit group that promotes pro-gun causes and various conspiracy theories through a shortwave radio program, a computer bulletin board, and sales of its newsletter and videos.

For Thompsons link to Ron Paul see local writer Dave Newirts site:

    http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/search?q=Thompson%2C+Linda+

10 to 1 Gerry believes every word of both conspiracy theory emails.

some days it’s a sad sad world.

There have always been crackpots in our society, but there was a time when they were just considered crackpots.. not harbingers of truth.

what has happened to critical thinking that it is so much easier to believe slogans and innuendos than documented truth?

I suspect BDG’s post “crazy man does post those pics” might be missing a word somewhere but just to be clear in case it’s not … we (your WSB editorial team) photographed the truck after first hearing about it from WSB’ers (we were going the opposite way on Alki and Patrick braved the post-dusk traffic to sprint across the street, all in a day’s work, er, night’s work), and I uploaded the pix to our server in response to the question last night about photos (note the URL, which goes straight to our upload files) … I don’t know that pix of the truck have been posted anywhere online by its owner, although I’m still trying to figure out if what’s written across the top of the side of the truck ending in “.com” is really a bonafide URL or not.

And thank-you for the pictures. It helps to get a sense of what we’re talking about. Reminds me of my crazy uncle who drove around with a bullhorn and bible verses painted all over his car.

Does Gerry Kingen attribute the “youth” quote to Hitler on the side of his van?

At one point there was masking tape covering Hitler’s name, but it looks like it was taken off.

It’s a real shame this guy appears to be a lunatic. I had always heard the food at Salty’s wasn’t the draw, it was the view. I finally went there a month ago with my in-laws and was pleasntly surprised to find the food is fairly good (if not great and way overpriced). However, I’ll never be spending money there again. Guess I’ll have to make the trek to Palisade way over in Magnolia when out of towners come in and want a meal on the water with a view.

So, one West Seattle landmark is off limits. Is it safe to eat at Alki Homestead (I’ve never been)? Please tell me it’s not owned by Gerry Kingen.

I think the view is better at Alki Crab & Fish, anyway. Fewer obstructions and interruptions, no piped in Muzak and way less expensive!

The Homestead is owned by Tom Lin (sp?), but he is trying to sell it.

I think the very funniest thing about those pictures is that he quotes himself! “Kingen- 2008” What a freakjob.

    #633163

The Slog seems to have picked up on the story. Does he really own the Red Robin chain?

The charla and the bob want to give a shout-out to TRB for posting the pictures — it would be very easy for a business to get hung up on the possibility of offending a WS institution. Same is true of the links to “How to find out if your rental is about to be demolished. WSB is clearly a community resource *and* a source of income for its editors and JMS. And it never forgets the community resource role. So, thank you for being here and being you guys.

Does this mean we won’t be seeing Salty’s advertising on the blog? Oh, well, maybe if they did, their tag line would be “come for the view of the city and some of the best right wing quotes money can buy” (I was just wondering if that van/bus was American made)

Here’s a link to Kingen’s part in Red Robin:

    http://saltys.com/community/gerry_kingen.asp

    This sums it up:

In 1979 Kingen began franchising Red Robin, which he had transformed into an adult McDonald’s and a poor man’s Trader Vic’s operation, with the first opening in Yakima, Washington. In 1984 Skylark Corporation, a Japanese restaurant company, bought 50 percent of Red Robin, and later purchased an additional 40 percent, with Kingen retaining a 10 percent interest. In 1996 Kingen refocused on Red Robin International and was elected CEO and chairman of the board of the now 177-unit chain.

WRT advertising, smart businesses know that if they need access to the audience of any given publication, broadcast, website, whatever, they shouldn’t worry themselves about the fact that editorial content might run the risk of being unfavorable at some point (a review, a negative news story, whatever) – there’s as much risk they might get GOOD coverage, after all.

Side note, though, overall, the restaurant industry has been slow to seek out advertising here. We really appreciate Garlic Jim’s for being an early adopter — and Beato advertised for a month — but otherwise, I think it’s something of a headscratcher; there are a few Junction establishments that spend vastly more money on ads in publications like Stranger and Weekly and I don’t think they’re reaching nearly as many West Seattleites there as they could reach here, for a lot less, and I think they’re throwing money away trying to entice customers to cross the bridge. But I digress, and perhaps restaurateurs would care to disabuse me of that belief. (Salty’s would be an exception, though. I suspect they do MUCH more of their business among non-West Seattleites than locals, because they are a tourist destination kind of place.)

Otherwise, thanks for the kind words. Re: Slog picking up on this, it was kind of funny because I had no idea – I stopped reading Slog because they bash people of size practically daily and I have no tolerance for supporting anyone or anything who is blatantly prejudiced against me because of the way I look — till another site operator joked in an exchange with me this afternoon, “So d’ya think you’ve had enough attention from Slog today?” I reluctantly looked and saw that they not only had posted about this thread, but also about the Junction petition story we broke last Friday. As I Twittered at the time, must have been a slooow news day downtown. They may also be having a traffic slump, because in the past a Slog link would be rapidly visible in the logs here, but I watched the logs after that and didn’t see many referrals. Maybe they’re only being read by their core group of comment flamers.

Kingen is no longer associated with Red Robin. Besides the fact that they probobably made him rich about a year maybe two ago or so when the main office in Colorado bought out Kingens division here in the PNW. Dennis Mullen is the acting CEO of RR and has been since 2002.

So good news we dont have to go swear off Red Robin everyone!

When did Klingen buy Salty’s? Is this (fairly) recent — like in the past ten years?

Charla…he bought the old Beach Broiler in 1985, turned it into Salty’s (the third one). Original Salty’s is/was in PDX (1980), and then he opened the one in Des Moines at Redondo Beach in 1981. Time flies, huh…
