JTBParticipantwilliamf64, the elitists I’m concerned about are those who face no accountability for the decisions they make to the detriment of millions of ordinary working people. You know, the CEO’s who ruin good businesses through incompetence or even fraud yet are allowed by their boards of directors to retire with huge payouts?
That noted elitist and conman, Rick Scott, was allowed (or encouraged?) to depart Columbia/HCA healthcare in the midst of a Medicare fraud investigation of practices that began under his watch and that his successors were left to settle for $600 million. Scott went on to become the governor of Florida, promoting reforms such as preventing the use of the expressions “climate change” or “global warming” in statements from state environmental agencies, no doubt because he is repelled by those terms most often associated with educated “elitists.”
You’re no doubt familiar with John Stumpf, the former CEO of Wells Fargo who sold $61 million in company stock a month before the investigation into the massive fraud scheme that went on for years under his watch was completed. He was allowed to retire while walking away with an estimated $134 million after the $41 million he forfeited in the light of the scandal. Do you see that $41 million as accountability or the cost of protecting the retirement package. Do you suppose he’ll face any legal liability if and when there are legal proceedings taken against the bank? Do you suppose the board of directors that has watched over all of this will be held to account?
As an educated elitist, I have come to believe that for decades, ordinary working Americans have been fed a line of lies and distortions intended to keep them from looking at the rot that underlies the core of this system and instead blame various minorities and segments of the population—-welfare recipients, immigrants, women, liberals, etc.
Elitists? The fact that you don’t appear to recognize who the real elitists are in this country is instructive. Are the elitists simply the people who have a higher education or are they perhaps those with enough money to accrue power which they use to influence everything from politics to media?
BTW, being impatient with intentionally odd capitalization isn’t elitist; it’s more like being put off by someone belching at the dinner table.

JanSParticipantredblack…I can vouch that you are an extremely nice, thoughtful guy, and would treat in public as you treat here.
I am one of those on a semi-fixed income. 69 years old and working part time because I have bills. If those property taxes go up again for my landlord, and he raises my rent again anytime soon, I may be pitching a tent in Mayor Ed’s front yard. I hope it doesn’t come true. But the economy is tough for those on basically a fixed income. I know a few it’s affecting.
And, yes, I’m a proud librul… :D
