Yesterday about 5pm, I got into my parked Subaru in the 44th Ave SW neighborhood by Gatewood Elementary and started up the car to leave. A medium older brown sedan pulled up beside me and a man probably in his 50s acted like he wanted to talk to me, so I rolled my window down thinking maybe he wanted directions or something. I was completely shocked when he launched into a verbally abusive tirade about how I had no right to drive with my fog lights on. I didn’t realize they were on.. must have hit the button accidently when I entered the car. I hadn’t pulled out of the parking space, so wasn’t technically driving and the lights only illuminated the car parked in front of me, not the street. I don’t even live in that neighborhood. I was just visiting. He screamed and yelled and swore at me and got red in the face. I was shocked into speechlessness but did have the presence of mind to roll the window up and he drove off.

When I got home I checked the fog lights and they didn’t seem unusually bright and on a Subaru they are fairly close to the ground. I asked my neighbor if my fog lights were unusually bright and was told they weren’t at all. I have no idea what would set off such a tirade.

Does anyone else have an issue with Subaru foglights?

Sounds to me more an issue with anger management than with your foglights.

Road rage over fog lights? That’s a new one.

That guy needs to chill out.

I seem to recall at least a couple incidents of some guy randomly screaming at other individuals.

I think one of the recipients was on a bicycle, and another was maybe a pedestrian.

I seem to recall one or both incidents to be in the Morgan Junction/Gatewood area.

Here’s a couple more, involving a white car thought to possibly be the same guy in a white car, as in the incident I linked above:

Interesting… thanks for the links to prior posts. Seems to be a guy with issues and an attitude about transporation. I’ll be more on the alert when I’m in the Gatewood area. The sedan was brown and my first thought was that it might have been a Toyota, but I can’t say for sure. Good to know I haven’t missed any new laws about fog lights. :)

    TDe:

Nothing wrong with your Subaru’s fog lights, or any other vehicle’s fog lights. Especially at 5:00PM.

Something wrong with that fella’s brain? You better believe it!

A couple of kids at the WS highschool have 6 in diameter fog lights that are brighter than their Halogen blue head lights. Looks like a fad of some sort. I have only seen them in the day time so I don’t know if they are blinding but they could be.

Ken: I think you mean Xenon or HID lighting. Halogen has the same color temperature range (3500-4000K) as yellow tungsten. Those intense HID lights are more in the 5000-6500K range, which gives them that blue cast.
