Was the power out in High Point today? I just got home and found my (electric) fireplace running. I have never used it in my two months in this house and hadn’t been in that room in two days. Very unsettling feeling. I noticed the traffic light at 16th and Holden was blinking on my way up from

work, but detoured to do some cat-sitting chores at a friend’s house. I wouldn’t have thought High Point and Highland Park are on the same grid… And if it was that large I figure SCL would have tweeted it?

We are on 28th and Thistle. Just about 4:30 we lost power; just long enough for all appliances to turn off and digital clocks to reset. I’m talking maybe 4 seconds, just long enough to say “arrghh, the power’s out”. For some reason both the washer and dryer controls lit up as well which was weird as they had not been on at the time. I have never had an appliance “turn on” after a power outage, but they did.

I just went to turn the lights on in the kitchen and it tripped the breaker switch. Must have been some kind of surge. And now I know I have a very sensitive breaker box.

Yeah, very brief power out “blip” (a matter of seconds at my home) at SW Thistle and 20th SW. I had to reset the appliance clocks. And reset my Direct TV tuner. And the fridge power out warning was beeping.

We had one report from somebody about a power surge around that time that tripped their “uninterrupted power source” (I may be mangling that phrase). I kept an eye on the City Light map, no outage turned up, and no one else contacted us at the time, so it didn’t rise to the news-story level … TR
