someone posted a recommendation for authentic pho in white center but neglected to mention where. Any recommendations?

also, i have heard there is good authentic mexican to be had in white center and burien. any recommendations there? I did discover the grocery next to Goodwill on Ambaum and 128th.. good pastries and a tortilla making machine…

I like the taco truck #2 located on 15th, a block or two south of Roxbury. It’s authentic Mexican, in the sense that you wait much longer than you’d want to for your food to be served. But it’s good stuff, worth the wait. Not sure about pho, I always go to Than Brothers for the cream puff.

The best Pho in White Center is on 16th Ave SW just south of Roxbury (so on the King County side) on the east side of 16th. I can’t remember the name, but it’s hard to miss.

For Pho in White Center we like White Center Pho on 16th and the place on the other side of the block next to the Carneceria on 15th…can’t remember the name.

There are several good taco trucks in the area, but we also like the Taqueria Guaymas there–less anglo than most of them–and Taqueria Del Rio down near McLendons.

Definately Pho 54 right on the corner of Roxbury and 15th. I go out of my way to go to this place. The people are always friendly, and even bring out water without you having to ask for it! (A rarity with pho places, I’ve noticed). Also, it just tastes better than anywhere else I’ve been, which is the main reason why I go.

I can cast another vote for White Center Pho. I’ve had pho all around Seattle, and nothing compares. If you want something a little different than pho; White Center Pho also serves Buhn (pr: boon). A bowl with lettuce on the bottom, a big pile of rice vermicelli, pickled carrot and daikon, ground peanuts and your choice of grilled meat or egg roll on top, served with a small bowl of simple dressing to drizzle over the whole thing. Yummy… and not as splashy as pho – which always leaves me with speckles on my shirt!

flowerpetal- that sounds so good! Bahn Mi 88 deli in White Center serves something similar. They don’t do Pho there, but they have a coconut milk/veggie thai style soup that is amazing.

Has anyone been to the new Pho place up near the junction and if so, what are your thoughts?

The only Pho place at the Junction I can think of is Than Brothers but it’s been open for over 2 years now (hardly new…). I really like their pho, but am not very objective because I’m addicted to the cream puffs!

Pho was an acquired taste for me, but it has now become comfort food. I’m glad to read of the place in White Center which I will definitely try. I really liked the Pho Hoa restaurants and their fresh Spring Rolls (sticky rice paper with a vermicelli stuffing). Seattle’s very first pho restaurant (at the intersection of Rainier Ave S and S Jackson St) is also very good – the name escapes me.

88 deli has amazing everything. And if you like pho, stick with any of the mentions in White Center. Then on the way home you can hit the Salvadorian Bakery on Roxbury. You wont pine for a stale cream puff anymore.

I love the Salvadorean Bakery, but have never had pho. Can someone tell me why it’s better than a bowl of ramen I can make at home for 19 cents?

Kayleigh – The noodles and broth in pho is so much better than packaged ramen that it is an unfair comparison. The biggest adjustment I had to make was seeing raw beef in my bowl.

P.S. Pho Bac is the name of the restaurant that I couldn’t remember.

So they have vegetarian ones? I don’t eat beef, raw or otherwise…

I’m almost convinced to try pho. (see, I can be convinced about some things.) ;-)

    yes, they have vegetarian pho…

pho has more body and more flavor… and sometimes more spice.

do you add sprouts and lime to your home bowls? those and more are generally available at pho places.

the only noodle bowl alternatives for home that hubby thinks compare at all are the really spicy ones that come in a bowl… and i haven’t seen those vegetarian.

most pho places also have really good spring rolls that are vegetarian.

you are making me crave pho
