cburnsParticipantIn a couple days I’ll need a notary for some docs I need to sign and would welcome any recommendations. Preferably in the Morgan Junction area, or up to Alaska. Haven’t done this before, is there usually a fee involved? Many thanks for any input!

miwsParticipantHi cburns,
MailBox West, at 6523 California, (Ivy Court Building, across-ish from Thriftway), has a Notary Service. 206-937-7385.
It’s been many years since I’ve had something notarized, but there is a fee. From what I recall, whatever the fee was at the time, and wherever I had it done, didn’t seem too unreasonable.

GenHillOneParticipantI’ve used Wells Fargo a lot (mostly Alaska branch) and there is no fee. I’m a customer, but they’ve never asked me to show my checkbook or anything when I’ve offered. Free for everyone? It would be worth a call there or to your bank.

PatrickKeymasterThe car tabs place on California across from the Rite Aid has a notary service, but they do charge for it.

kmMemberI have Barry at Mailbox West Notarize something for me once a week. I’m a mailbox holder and frequent customer so the price is usually around $5/stamp depending on what is been notarized.

hopeyParticipantEvery bank has at least one officer who is a notary. As GenHillOne noted, they may ask you to prove you are a customer, so it may save you some hassle to just go to a bank where you have an account. I’ve never been charged at any of the US Bank branches where I’ve had items notarized.
That said, if you can’t manage to get to a bank during business hours. Alki Mail & Dispatch has a notary. They are open 7 days a week & into the evening. Just call to make sure the notary will be around when you need it. http://www.alkimail.com/servicesnotary.html

cburnsParticipantThanks to all for the great input. It hadn’t occurred to me to check with my bank. Just called them and they’ll do for free, so will probably go that route since I’m going there anyway this week.

KimberleyParticipantFor what it’s worth, any bank with a notary should not refuse to notarize a document for you if you’re not a customer(I’ve had that happen in the past). Also, here’s a link to the WACs and notary fees (I thought $10 was a bit much, but I was mistaken): http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=308-30-020
I’m also a notary in WS and would happily notarize documents for free, though I’ll only be around on the weekends starting the 28th.
