Seattle TrashMemberWe are looking to have one shower window replaced (frame, not just glass), and will be replacing windows as we go in other rooms as well over the next 2 years. Looking for recommendations–hopefully not someone with a long-winded sales pitch since we are focused on one room at a time :-)

tom kelleyParticipantBased on our experience having windows done I would never get windows from a company whose installers are not employees. When we had issues with our job the guys who did the actual work were nowhere to be found and we had to start from scratch with the window company. In fairness, they stood by they by the job but it was a huge pain in the…

IrukandjiParticipantWe have had great experience with Kolbe Windows, both as part of a remodel and a few years later when we replaced some original windows. Happy with the price, the quality and installation.
We were working with a contractor for window work. If you need a contractor recommendation, let me know.

KevinParticipantJust watch out for the “clowns” who want to sell you a whole house of windows.
.
The “REPUTABLE” vendors are the ones that will “gladly” (key word here) quote you a price for ONE cracked, or otherwise damaged window in need of replacement.
.
The “clowns” to watch out for are the ones who are looking for the one call, single close, “two legged” sale.
.
In other words, BOTH spousal members present, so they can bring on the high pressure sales tactics and “hope” to get a commitment on that same day.
.
Stay FAR, FAR away!
.
If they cannot (happily) offer to give you a quote on ONE window – then they are NOT worth your time in taking with. Consider yourself forewarned.
.
I would head straight to Ventana, STS, or Potter for what a REALISTIC estimate should be!

Seattle TrashMemberThanks everyone.
Kevin, I’ve heard of the “both spouses” sales pressure thing, and we know we want to do our windows PER remodel project-i.e. that’s one window for our current bathroom project :-)
Thanks!

TishParticipantI am also looking for some good recommendations in this area. I purchased a 1920s home with new vinyl windows installed. I thought everything was great until winter came and I could feel the wind coming from around the edges of the front windows on the first and second story! To make matters worse, there appears to be a water leak that occurs whenever a strong gust of rainy wind hits the front of my house just so. I suspect my front windows weren’t installed properly and/or properly sealed, but I won’t know for sure until I get someone out here to take a look.
In my case, it would be a good idea to have someone who has experience with installing windows for older homes like mine and can help me troubleshoot this matter.
If anyone else has any more recommendations they can add to this post, I’d appreciate it. I plan to get at least three bids before proceeding.

greydogMemberI obtained 5 bids when purchasing windows 6 years ago and by far the best price and the best experience was Signature windows and doors.

Grant, the owner is amazing! They have a small group of installers who have worked for them for years. I have since used them two additional times. Call and ask for Grant. You won’t be sorry.

greydogMemberOh, and Tish – I also have a 1920 craftsman. Grant has done all of the windows in the house and I couldn’t be happier.
