    I know this has been talked about before, but maybe we can get a list of favorite places for gluten free meals.

    My wife is a Celiac, and heres what we’ve found so far

    Ama Ama More then willing to check with the chef, and understands gluten free

    OK Corral BBQ Will make sauce on request (with a little time to make it)

    Matador I know the nachos are

    Spring hill we havent been there yet, but the manager said the chef would be willing to accomodate us, just make sure to call ahead

    Great harvest has a selection of gluten free bread (granted its made around lots of gluten, so it depends on allergy sensitivity)

    Garlic Jims Gluten free pizza!

    Kokoras Salads for sure, I havent asked about the gyro meat yet

    Those are really the only places I’ve gone too, I know Full Tilt does ice cream, but we havent been there yet…

    Any other recommendations?

    I know it is not in WS, but Squid and Ink has a GF menu.

    Great Harvest Bakery in The Junction has prominently promoted its gluten-free offerings with signage on the storefront, and I’ve seen ’em on the shelves. Sweet treats as well as bread-type items.

    Great Harvest has a bunch of gluten free options – dairy free and egg free options too. Also, cookies, cupcakes, etc. If you let the owners know your restrictions, they will come up with something and are always open to suggestions. 1/3 of the display case is now dedicated to gluten free.

    We are GF also. Riverhouse is GF but the grill is not dedicated GF. the goodies at Great Harvest are delicious. The best GF place I have found in Seattle is Da’Vinci in Greenwood. PCC Market has some nice GF options and so does Amazon Fresh. Not restaurants but good to know about.

    Elliott Bay Brewery in the junctions has some items that are gluten free. Last weekend I had the Sambal Mussels, they are served with french fries. The mussels are in a nice indonesian style broth.

    i heard a rumor that the owner of DaVinci’s was going to be selling gluten-free pizza dough to pizza restaurants. maybe if enough people asked about this (of both DaVinci’s and your local, favorite pizza place), it will happen. otherwise it’s back to Madame K’s in Ballard.

    There is a new restaurant opening in the complex across the street from Jefferson Square that has a sign up (I saw it today) that says something about natural. So maybe that means GF. I think TR knows more about this restaurant. TR?

    Not a meal, but Bakery Nouveau has yummy macaroons that are gluten-free! And I noticed GF cookie dough in the freezer section at Metropolitan Market.

    Sadly, fish is also off the menu for my wife. And french fries usually are as well, as the gluten will not cook away from when they fry the breaded products. So unless they plan on changing the oil for us…

    Shopping and making meals at home arent hard, I was just hoping for some insight for what other gluten free people do for restaurants around here.

    Also not a restaurant, but there is usually a table at the WS Farmers Market from Flying Apron, a gluten free bakery in Fremont: http://www.flyingapron.net/ Their stuff is amazing!

    Our GF friends got very sick from Garlic Jim’s. They have Celiac’s and are sensitive to cross contamination.

    We have had a lot of luck at Mashiko’s. They can even have the rice beer there as well. They also frequent Salty’s too.

    cross contamination is hard, thankfully my wife isnt that sensitive. I wonder if improtu bistro on madison is still gluten free now that the old chef left there…. http://www.impromptuwinebar.com

    I’ve heard that one of the other Zeeks locations offer gluten free pizza – from a celiac at work -and I’ve been meaning to email them and request gluten free here in WS when they open soon. Perhaps if those of us who are looking for GF options all do the same – they will make it happen?

    there was a stand at the farmers market last week, i think it was called “Flying Apron”. i know apron was part of their name :P

    anyway, they had a bunch of gluten free, vegan, alternatively sweetened, etc items. I had a scone and a cookie, and they were pretty darn good.

    So glad I found this! I’m not gluten free but am wheat free and am highly sensitive to cross contamination. It’s nice to know about Great Harvest and Garlic Jim’s.

    Here’s what I’ve found in the three years I’ve been dealing with this:

    Endolyne Joes’s: depends on their theme but there’s usually at least one thing on the menu I can eat.

    Abbondanza has a chicken ceasar salad and also a “chef’s salad” (can’t remember what they actually call it) that they serve without the croutons when asked.

    Elliott Bay serves my hamburger without the bun when I really need the burger, leaves the pita bread or other wheat based items off my salad on request and I’ve never had a problem when I’ve asked them to check on wheat in their menu items before I order.

    Rocksport: they have “boneless” buffalo wings that they will prepare with grilled chicken instead of breaded chicken.

    Sounds like corn may be okay since the nachos at Matador are probably corn tortillas. Try Cactus on Alki, they have been wonderful about substituting corn tortillas for flour and are another place that gladly checked on wheat in their menu items before I ordered. The quesadillas on their happy hour menu were incredible (especially when accompanied by their house margaritas).

    If fish weren’t out, Anthony’s in Des Moines and Bell Street pier has a lot of nice menu items that are gluten free.

    Celtic Swell Saturday and Sunday brunch, lots of items and I just tell them no toast. Their country potatoes might be an issue as they deep fry them, I haven’t seen their regular menu so am not sure if they’ve deep fried any breaded items.

    Can’t think of anything else right now, will add more later if I think of it.

    It turns out that the GF pizza chain is Romeo’s not Zeek’s. Specifically the Romeo’s on Greenwood just north of 85th.

    Huge rave for their pizza and pesto bread – they also do dairy free. Its wonderful. I had some last week – it was the first ‘bread’ and pizza I’d had since going GF, DF, EF. Yummm…

    I thought I’d update the list here since it has been a year.

    Phoenicia has many naturally gluten free items & will even substitute gluten free pasta!

    Duke’s has a printed gluten free menu, The Mission and the Matador have a printed sheet also.

    Kokoras, Sunfish, & Porterhouse all use separate fryers for their french fries – no cross contamination! The Porterhouse even has gluten free buns from the harvest!

    The cask has a gluten free ale.

    I’ve had good luck at the Cactus also, and Alki Cafe is very accommodating, as is the Bamboo.
