DPMemberI’m trying to go solar, but I don’t want to sell the farm to do it. I’ve had two bids from contractors who wanted to charge me $30,000 to cover my whole roof, install a fancy water heating system and so on. (I think they were adjusting their price and scale of work to maximize the tax credit.)
Anyone here know of folks who do no-frills and/or partial solar jobs? I’m not worried so much about getting the tax credit. I just wanna do something to help the planet.
I’d also like to see my meter spinning backward if the sun should ever decide to come out again.

KBearParticipantI think part of BP’s punishment should be free solar panels for everybody.

CarsonParticipantAsk Marty Riemer. Totally serious. Before he was canned he raved about the solar he installed on his house and the joy of watching his meter spin backwards, he is also local. He is on Facebook all the time and will gladly give you his email address. I don’t think you will able to do it cheap cheap no matter what.

greatfree1MemberHave you tried Common Ground Electric? My company sells solar panels to them and they seem to be good guys. Not sure how big your house is but you should be more around $20,000 not $30,000. Anyway, there number is 253-847-8145. Their in Spanaway but do jobs all over.

BunBunMemberAlas, solar is not cheap. But if you’re looking to help out the planet check these sites out. Find something that fits within your price range and a good local electrician/installer should be able to do the install without too much cost.

The expandable Enphase grid-tie systems are pretty cool because you can build them over time, they also allow you to get the 30% off federal tax credit. It comes down to $/watt and efficiency of the system. I like the Solon panel systems because they’re made in USA.

MargLMembersolar epiphany – are you posting as a customer or as an employee? I believe it’s in the rules of posting that a business can respond to a request for recommendation or help but they need to be clear of the affiliation in their post… Is it “They” or “We”?

BlendParticipantI was wondering about Red Cup..cause they have a sign that says they are hybrid. I just thought they gave discounts to people who drive a Prius. hehe. But that’s so awesome that they did that.
