hsncvParticipantTired of long lines of idling cars on Fauntleroy? We are tired of sitting in lines while ferry boats leave empty because WSF cannot figure out how to get cars onto the ferry dock and onto the boats. Sign our online petition asking our Governor and State Legislators to step in and help WSF figure out how to load boats and move cars.

sboneParticipantI moved from West Seattle to Vashon last summer, use the ferry regularly, and have participated in the inadequate attempts to shave seconds from the loading. What I don’t understand is why an island with a population of 11,000 has two docks for loading/unloading simultaneously, while the highly populated Seattle city side has only one dock? It seems obvious that a second dock would allow for continuous loading of cars during high volume times and could help ease congestion in West Seattle along Fauntleroy.

miwsParticipantsbone, I don’t have time right now to research and link sources, and it’s been discussed here on WSB before so should be searchable, but a second ferry slip has been proposed many times over the years, probably even decades, and has always met resistance from area residents.

PLSParticipantMove the Fauntleroy ferry dock to T-5 where there is plenty of room. Trip would take a little longer, yes, but capacity would never be an issue and West Seattle would stop being a speed zone for ferry goers.

PLSParticipantMapped it out and T5 would make the current 3.5 mile trip dock to dock over 9 miles at least. Saves non-WS people a lot of driving time/cost but would raise the cost of the ferry service for sure, tripling their fuel and time. Guess that’s not feasible.

EdSaneParticipantWSF does a great job considering the geographic constraints. People who choose to live on the island are already well aware of the limitations and further investment doesn’t seem like a worthy ROI considering the numerous transportations issues we currently face.
