JiggersMemberLawmakers have passed a new bill requiring you to pay a $30 annual fee to enjoy the park when we are already being taxed for it. Such___________!

BonnieParticipantIsn’t Lincoln Park a city park?

JiggersMemberSo I”m guessing that Lincoln Park is exempt from this new law? City,State? I’m confused.

DPMemberYou know how the highway department puts up those signs that say Your tax dollars at work! at construction sites?
Well, each time the state has to raise a fee, or cut a service, or turn some kid away from college, they should erect a sign at the proper location saying: Your brains at work. Thank you for defeating I-1098.
Jiggers, you voted against I-1098 I believe. Well, dude . . . this is what you get. Governor Gregoire warned us that this was going to happen, and now it is.
And please don’t tell me that our taxes “already pay” for state parks.
Obviously, they don’t.

mpentoParticipantAw, I thought this was going to be a nice spring romance observation thread :(

skeeterParticipantLincoln Park is a city park and would not be effected by this legislation.

dhgParticipantDP: Where do you find these? What a hoot. Touch this and you’ll die. PS We’ll also fine you. Your money AND your life.

JiggersMemberWhy didn’t they include city parks which are heavily used?
April 21, 2011 at 6:05 pm #722901
JustSarahParticipantJiggers, city parks are managed and funded by cities. It would be at the discretion of each city to charge an entrance fee; the state legislature does not/cannot/would not want to meddle in city budgets. I don’t think it would be worthwhile for any city to impose such a fee, as administration and enforcement costs would almost definitely outweigh any revenue generated.

DPMemberskeeter: Give it time. The budget/tax crisis will eventually trickle down to nearly every aspect of our lives, from national defense to city parks.
The final outcome may be good. We may end up with a fairer tax structure and a citizenry that’s more involved in political and community life. Before that happens, there will be much grief. Mark my words.
mpento: We WS Bloggers are nothing if not romantic. Start another thread specifically on romance and you’ll see.
Put the word “spring romance” in the subject line, so we’ll know you’re for real. ;-)

hammyMemberThe Parks Department is however, as previously noted on the WSB, seriously exploring charging for parking at some heavily used area parks including Lincoln.

WSBKeymasterHere’s where that landed. Have not heard further re: the possible SLU test.
