oddrealityParticipantThis is a long shot. …but does anyone know of anyone that does leaded glass repair? Our homes old original leaded glass door has 3 broken panes out of 15.I have called several places and no one does this kind of restoration work. Any ideas?

homedkParticipantSeattle Stained Glass, located just west of I-5 on 45th Street in the U District, does this. They also offer classes if you are interested in repairing the panes in the door yourself.
We have an old 1920’s house with many leaded glass windows, so opted to take the classes. The classes were great & it’s been very rewarding to fix and make leaded glass windows.

oddrealityParticipantWow! That is great! I’ll check them out. I hate looking at this broken-glassed door.
Our house was built in 1914 and we have some leaded glass windows and doors but not as many as some old homes. This is the first time in 28 years any panes have been broken. I could kick myself.
Thanks for the helpful info!

swthistleMemberI second the recomendation of Seattle Stained Glass. They removed our 1906 front door replaced it with a temp door, then took our door to their shop and did a fantastic job fixing the loose glass and replacing metal bracing which had disappered over the years. The door was returned in perfect condition and has stayed that way for the last 3 years. Very professional and well worth what ever the charge was at the time. I don’t remember how much but it was but resonable considering the $ worth and history of having an beautiful original door!

celeste17ParticipantHi if you don’t want to go to the University area there are two very nice and competent ladies that own and run Glass Expressions in Burien. The shop is located on 152nd just off of Ambaum. Kathy and Lael. They are reasonably priced and local. They could use all the business they can get to keep the shop running.

homedkParticipantGlass Expressions is a nice shop & the women who run it are indeed very helpful!
I recommended Seattle Stained Glass because they have specialists that repair vintage leaded glass windows & doors. They also offer classes that are focused specifically on working with lead.
These days, most stained glass work is done using “Copper Foil” technique, as opposed to lead. There are differences between working with lead as opposed to using Copper Foil.
I didn’t recommend the Glass Expressions shop because as far as I know they only offer classes that teach the Copper Foil technique.
Seattle Stained Glass offers Copper Foil classes too, but is the only shop I know of that offers instruction in working with lead.
