rsaMemberI would love to have my child’s 5th birthday party in West Seattle, but do not have room at my house. Do you have any ideas of a fun place?
thank you!

MissKMemberLincoln Park can be a fun spot for kids. Contact the Park Service and reserve one of the covered areas. There is even the Colman Pool down there which could be fun. Just a thought? :-)

ToddinWestwoodMemberWEst SEattle Bowl is a great place for a kids party. They even give the child a bowling pin to take home.

pamMemberSo many places – but you may have to call to see if they still do them: West Seattle bowl (go get trophy’s at Goodwill etc), check to see if Hiawatha sill rents out their daycare area with climbing equip etc., Coleman pool, Lincoln Park. My kids are grown now but those are some of the things we’ve done.

ToddinWestwoodMemberoh yeah, , the YMCA has an awsome birthday package. They open the “kids gym” and let kids climb, jump and hang from everything and then do the cake and presents in another room.

WSBKeymasterLong ago but not so far away, we had our son’s 5th birthday party at Camp Long. The lodge is a nice big room, and we were able to arrange naturalist-guided walks for the kids.

And wrt two other places mentioned earlier in this thread, since they are WSB sponsors I’ll take the liberty of adding direct links:

We are big fans of Colman Pool as well but it might be a bit much for 5-year-olds as the shallow end is not as shallow as most other pools. Not sure about the exact depth but I remember that clearly from the years before it didn’t matter for us any more.

BonnieParticipantWell, it depends on if you want indoor or outdoor. Is it a summer birthday?
My son has a summer birthday and one year we rented one of the shelters at Linclon Park (#5 by the wading pool). It rained that day! Then another year we had his birthday at Coleman Pool. (awesome weather, luckily) I’ve been to parties at Camp Long and that was a lot of fun.
For indoor you can rent rooms at all the community centers. The Little Artist does a nice birthday party. I’ve been to parties at West Seattle Bowl. (fun party but SUPER BUSY) Might be pricey but you can rent the bathhouse for a party down on Alki.
Of course, the Y has great birthday parties. We’ve been to a few there too. You can also do swimming parties at the Y and Southwest Pool (when they reopen)

BonnieParticipantOh, I always thought having a bonfire on the beach would be fun for a birthday party. Might not be good for 5 year olds though with the sun going down so late.

changingtimesMembernot really in the west, but i would go to tukwila to Bullwinkles family fun center, its like a bigger, better chucky cheese! i guess its kinda expensive but you cant beat bumper boats on a hot sunny day!

herongrrrlParticipantIf the timing works for you, you can reserve a room and have a birthday party at Alki Community Center during a Friday family skate night. You get one of the rooms to yourself for the party, and the kids can join in the skating and/or watch the movie that shows during the skate.
Curious Kidstuff in the Junction has a kids’ art studio upstairs that does birthday parties, and Goody Gumdrops in Burien has some kind of birthday party package available, but I don’t know the details.
Also, if your little one has a party theme in mind, think about what kind of places/events around here might fit into it. My daughter requested an Elizabethan themed birthday party last year, so we had the guests come in costume and we all went to see one of the Shakespeare in the Park performances at Lincoln Park. A little heady for the 5yo set, but you get the idea. :)

RainyDay1235MemberI personally would avoid a birthday party that involves water-play or pools in any way. Too many kids to keep track of, too many things can go wrong.
Bes to stick with the YMCA package – or maybe look into Urban Monkeys?

GenHillOneParticipantI may have had the only 5-year-old that asked for a “hamburger” birthday party…don’t ask. We had it at our house and didn’t literally BBQ, but took the theme and ran with it – fun for summer. Cake was shaped like a giant hamburger (no meat, really cake) – I think we got it at Fred Meyer tho admittedly it was some time ago now. Lots of red & white picnic style paper products, made our own version of pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey…paper french fries on the ketchup…couldn’t find a themed pinata, so did one that was shaped like the number 5. Included in the goodies were things like those little gummy hamburgers and hotdogs. You could do this at many of the spaces suggested above. We had a blast :)

MCMMemberI was at Full Tilt last night and they have a sign saying they do Birthday parties. Only $75 and your child gets to create an ice cream flavor to eat at the party as well as take home a pint. Could be fun!!

rsaMemberWow! Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. I’ll definately look into them. =)

HPMemberI did a combined 6 year old/10 year old party saturday at full tilt like in post 13 it was only 75.00 dollars for ten people and that includes the custom flavor/ take home pint and goodie bags and a juice or a soda (All bottled unique choices) the kids had fun playing pinball and the video games for a couple of hours. and they got to choose from regular or sugar or fresh baked waffle cones to put their choice of ice cream in, that was fun also. It was a nice low-key party which for me was great since we just got back from Disneyland two weeks ago. Basically all we had to do was show up with a cake.

HPMemberAnd as far as Bullwinkles goes it is a great place, but the drawback for me is taking a group of smaller children is too high stress for me b/c there is no security system for the kids and it is such a big place, chuckecheese at least has the hand stamp for parents and kids so the kids cant exit the building without an adult with the matching number. And Bullwinkles has 2 stories and and outdoor area, which unless you’ve got an adult for every child would be diffucult to keep track of the kids.

FullTiltParticipantHP thank you for the review! I am raelly glad you enjoyed the party…but we never gave you your take home pint! So come get it sometime!!!
July 23, 2008 at 3:47 am #631960
BonnieParticipantI would avoid Bullwinkles on the weekend. it is much too busy for lots of kids that age.
