I would love more space to walk/bike/recreate instead of car space. I’m not an expert, but I am pretty sure it is 99.99999999999% impossible to close a high volume roadway. There are just a huge number of insurmountable obstacles.
It’s just two streets. Foot traffic would go up for businesses. The bus hardly goes through the junction on California and already goes around except for one route. Alki could be closed just on beach drive. All other vehicles could park and walk.
If Tokyo Japan could do this (the largest most populated city/island in the world) why can’t we? We have more space? If we care about our community and planet so much why don’t we act on it?
