WS rats. Whip out your sketchy things.I am familiar with procedures and processes in King county. As long as they resist Sam Reeds urge to put bar codes on each ballot to make them traceable and identifiable (like some counties) their process is fair and open to all to observe. The diebold tabulator and the cards used in the optical scan tabulators will always be suspect but if you want to replace those with touch screen machines, then you remove a couple of current layers of visible accountability.

    WSratsinacage..

In all elections, there is the possibility of fraud on both sides in voter registration.. individuals cheat… paid registration gatherers cheat…

that is to be expected and hopefully we weed it out at the local level.. keeping it to a minimum…

what is happening in the registrar offices in several states this year is systematic denial of validly registered voters using several organized and coordinated tactics at governmental levels.

In florida in 2004, purging voter rolls to eliminate any name that might possibly have been a felon whether their address matched the felons or not without the timely notification of the registered voter that they had been purged was a glaring example and prevented many validly registered voters from voting.

in effect, they couldn’t even vote by proving who they were.. or.. by proving who they weren’t. they simply were no longer registered voters.

This year, the need to show two pieces of picture ID if a poll worker even questions your voter registration is designed to eliminate poorer voters whose only picture ID is often a state identification card.

even i would be at a loss to show two pieces of picture ID if i had to do so to vote..

purging voters because they have had their homes repossessed purges a voter who might be in the process of establishing a new address or whose address change might not yet have been registered with the state due to the state’s backlog of work without giving them the chance to have their mail forwarded to them and to update their voter registration before the election… again targeting middle and lower class voters disproportionately.

It is one thing to cross reference those whose registration you suspect may be outdated and therefore give them the opportunity to update their registration..

another entirely to purge them from the system because you suspect for whatever reason that their registration may be outdated.

it goes against the grain of the basis of American law.. guilty till proven innocent…

this is an abuse of the elections process that we would condemn in any other country holding elections.

Zenguy, I didn’t know or remember you even said go girl. I just meant that it is interesting how different points of view are accepted on this blog. If you think one way, you are golden.. if you have an open mind, you get lambasted, questioned, and worse.

Ken if it was fair, why did Gregoire want a recount until she won? Sketchy things: Why were dead people voting but relatives not prosecuted? I have a source inside the prosecutors office. Why did all of those ballots keep turning up recount after recount for both sides? How do I know my vote will count or be lost next time? I could come out and say things like my mail in ballot was rejected because it did not match the signature on file. It’s BS because I signed exactly like my registration card. So is that some Democratic conspiracy to void Republican votes in a state that has gone democratic in recent memory except for Reagan in the early 80’s? Sound ridiculous? It’s basically what Democrats are saying.

People’s “ideas” on this blog are hypocritical. I’m really getting an insight into how Democrats truely think. It’s an eye opening experience.

    #637686

JoB – I agree with what you are saying. I see what you mean and would say it is horrible too.

What I am hearing people say is that this basically W’s or Republican’s fault . I don’t understand.

Institutionalized voter fraud like what is currently happening in some voter registration purges is an affront to American citizens whether it is being perpetrated by democrats or republicans.

i would yell every bit as loudly if democrats were doing it.

in fact, i am still p….d at my party because they did not pursue obvious voter machine tampering in Ohio in 2004.

Vote tampering, regardless of it’s source, only causes voter apathy… which turns elections into a farce.

i think this idea of making charges of voter fraud political and therefore not important is undermining our democracy.. no matter which side is making the noise.

And i am appalled that the very governmental agencies we count on to secure a free and fair election are perpetrating policies that unfairly deny citizens their vote.

i think it should be stopped because it is wrong!

In case there is any doubt, people reading this please do not equate my conservative beliefs with being pro fraud. I don’t think I ever gave off this attitude but just wanted to make sure it is known that I am not advocating fraud.

    WSratsinacage..

i never had any doubt that you don’t support voter registration fraud. I think your earlier comments made that clear.

i think it is just too easy to get caught in the snare of looking at accusations of voter fraud as being purely political without examining them and their possible impact further…

if they really stop and think about it, i suspect republicans want every registered voter to have the opportunity to vote.

it’s when we get invested in winning that we forget this isn’t just a game. The end does not justify the means if it makes a mockery of the process.

Sometimes there are things bigger than winning.. and for most of us, the integrity of our elections is one of those things.

    1) If you get deceptive robo calls, please let me know. I run the National Political Do Not Contact Registry and are keeping a database of these. Audio is key.

There is a new McCain strategy in Wisconsin. It appears that the GOP is sending voters applications for absentee ballots for different states other than the one where the recipient lives. This scam creates voter fraud.

Read the story and see an example of the mailer here:

Charla…yes, I agree, proof please. Innuendo does not cut it with me. Grr…guess you’d have to show me in black and white exactly how Gov. Gregoire did that.

it looks like the democrats would be wise to field a huge voter registration drive.. re-register even if your address has changed.. even if you think you are legally registered…

Secure your rights and make it too much trouble for them to do this again.

    Flipjack…

thanks.. that was a very useful video clip…

for those who might be put off by the syle of the first part of the video.. hang in there.. there is useful info for all voters.

or just go to stealbackyourvote.org for info on the 7 ways your vote could be stolen and what you can do about it.

voter suppression is illegal… but it’s a lot easier to get away with if it’s republicans perpetrating the fraud and the state attorney general is a handpicked republican appointee…

there is a method in madness. Although illegal practice was investigated, the appointees remain in place.

Maybe it would be a good thing to make sure you are still legally registered before it’s too late.

    it could happen here too.

    And this in from Michigan…

    Bad voter applications found

Clerks see fraudulent, duplicate forms from group

Several municipal clerks across the state are reporting fraudulent and duplicate voter registration applications, most of them from a nationwide community activist group working to help low- and moderate-income families.

The majority of the problem applications are coming from the group ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which has a large voter registration program among its many social service programs. ACORN’s Michigan branch, based in Detroit, has enrolled 200,000 voters statewide in recent months, mostly with the use of paid, part-time employees.

“There appears to be a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications,” said Kelly Chesney, spokeswoman for the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office. “And it appears to be widespread.”

http://www.theroot.com/id/48123?GT1=38002 It would seem that fraud in the form of challenges filed en masse is already occurring, and has been for 50 years.

    jenny..

of course there are duplicate voter registrations in michigan.

if the voters involved are still on the registration rolls, they are duplicates.

if not, they are re-registering themselves so they can vote.

i can’t speak to the fraud since it is unclear what constitutes fraud in a state that has purged voter rolls based on suspicion of fraudulent registration.. not proof.

I pity the poor registration workers trying to straighten out the resulting mess..

but think the state got the bill it deserved in overtime for those registration workers when it started playing political hopscotch with voter registrations.
