JoBParticipantthat Republican officials support Bundy 100% when he advocates taking up arms against an agency of the US government..
in fact.. they stand behind conservative talk show hosts who actively recruit a militia for Bundy
but when he opens his mouth and racial bigotry rears it’s head..
they distance themselves as quickly as they can.
Don’t get me wrong.. i am not advocating racism..
but i have to wonder just how wrong our priorities have become that we would find advocating armed insurrection acceptable ..
debating whether or not his cause was just…
but racist remarks unacceptable…
what are we thinking?

KatherineLParticipantI’d say it means we’ve come a step further from the ’60’s when the racism would have been accepted, too.

Militant ModerateMemberJoB, you’re referring to an audience that, for six years now, has been told that President Obama isn’t American, isn’t Christian, has repeatedly violated the Constitution, caved to the so-called “gay mafia”, oppressed Christian-based businesses by forcing employers to also cover contraception, is intent on punishing the “job creators” (or, in Ayn Rand terms, the “producers”), is weak and ineffectual in foreign policy (“manhood problems”), is a wuss next to Vladimir Putin, is anti-Israel, etc., etc.
If someone is listening to this rhetoric, day-in and day-out, then Bundy and other like-minded folks aren’t insurrectionists; they’re PATRIOTS defending the Constitution and fighting for Jesus, against the anti-constitutional and anti-Christian government that has usurped power in our once-Godly, free nation.
A few weeks back, either Fox News or the Fox Business Channel, had a board set up entitled “Obama’s Constitutional Violations” (or something similar). The board was arranged like the NCAA Basketball tournament, brackets and all, and the hosts were debating ESPN style which “violation” should advance to the next round!
You and I might not consider any News Corp product to be a legitimate news source, but as evidenced by the ratings, we’re in the minority. Add into the mix “news” media such as Breitbart, WorldNetDaily, Rush Limbaugh, NewsMax, CNSNews, TownHall, InfoWars, Blaze/Glenn Beck, DrudgeReport, etc., … you get the idea. The consumers of this sphere of information can only conclude that change by any means necessary, even armed insurrection, is justifiable.
In short, there are too many Americans who would rather be outraged and incensed than informed. New information that may cause someone’s mind to change should be avoided. And, besides that, changing your mind makes you weak and a waffler.
And discourse with angry, lied-to folks is very difficult.

wakefloodParticipantDamn straight, MM. You really can’t reason with most of these crazies. They’ve shut off their capacity for critical thought. It’s a dangerous situation and its going to squeeze out through the cracks, somewhere, sometime.
I just hope that when it does, that the idiots stoking the fire get seen for what they are. Traitors.
