villagegreenMemberer…I mean Easy Street. Anyone else feeling that corner of the Junction needs a little love? Don’t get me wrong, I love Easy Street—I shudder to think how much money I’ve dropped there over the years—but it’s looking a little worse for wear these days. I love the building itself, although it could use a good power washing. But now that the awning is gone and they’ve let a shattered window remain for months it’s getting kind of sad. Even the dated looking blue accent paint is peeling and faded.
I want to keep old West Seattle alive and thriving with all the new condo and apartment buildings going in, but just because something is dingy and decaying doesn’t mean it’s ‘authentic’.

anonymeParticipantI have to agree. Easy Street used to have some character; now it looks like a building in the process of demolition.

JKBParticipantWent to a movie the other night up at the Admiral Theatre, and was pretty disappointed in the condition of the place. Same story as what you’re saying about Easy Street – it just looked un-cared for.

datamuseParticipantWhen the awning came down last spring, Easy Street was hoping to work with their landlord to replace it. Anyone heard any updates on that score?
(Although…ghetto? Really?)

nyhopiMemberHey has anyone bothered to go and ask Matt what is up? I’ll bet he will tell you. Let’s not forget we are neighbors right?

JanSParticipantdatamuse…those that call something like this a “ghetto”, have never actually been in a real ghetto….sigh… maybe the word “eyesore” would be a better choice – it’s a far cry from a ghetto…

datamuseParticipantHey, it’s going to be a little while before I can get over to Easy Street again, and I wondered if anyone had heard anything in the meantime.

JanSParticipantI emailed Matt at ESR to give him a heads up about this thread…he wrote back saying he would meet in person…so I suppose it’s up to the OP to follow through?

librarianMemberUpdate: They are painting the building a beautiful blue. Looks much better.

sbreParticipantI called the blog today informing them of the BEAUTIFUL BLUE parts of the building had become and they said going to see it was on their agenda…
It looked really nice, albeit far from finished when I was there around noon, so I think I’ll make my way by there again tomorrow for another look.

WSBKeymasterSbre, we had noticed that starting yesterday while in The Junction to check on the kitty-corner teardown, but need to reach ESR to ask about the big picture. Not to mention that unfortunately between crashes, flashers, demolition, the “fled Canada” sex offender turning up in WS, we’ve been on the run all day (and into the evening) … thank you, though. – TR

gmabettyParticipantHope they maintain the unique murals on the side of the building. Love EZ Street, always busy. Figured if nothing was done by finish of major project kitty-corner from them, they would have to fix the exterior to blend in.

Jet CityParticipant“When the awning came down last spring, Easy Street was hoping to work with their landlord to replace it.”
So there could be a new awning in the offing.
