My wife and I are considering installing a geothermal heating system. We are considering both open loop and closed loop systems. Has anyone in West Seattle installed a system like this and care to comment on which type you installed, and how it is performing? We are in the northern end of W.S., and would be especially interested in hearing about open loop system performance in this area. Local geology is glacial outwash sands to approximatley 90 ft. Depth to groundwater is approx. 65 ft at our house. We really like the idea of an open loop system becuase of its smaller footprint and bettter efficiency compared with closed loop systems, and we are aware the potential cost of installation would likely be higher.

    Thank You!

This is obviously a commercial versus a residential project, but I just thought I’d mention that the High Point Center has a ground source heat pump system. They might be able to provide you with some info about how it has been working since it was installed in 2009.

cjboffoli – thank you for the info, I will contact them and see if they can share any thoughts on performance issues to date.

Anyone else have geothermal experience they would like to share?

    Thanks,
