Last week, the thread entitled “Debate 4” would disappear and reappear for me. Currently, it’s not visible in any of my browsers.

Also, if I use the browser which has my cookie for the WSB, I can’t see DBP’s post here…

    https://westseattleblog.com/forum/topic/i-1240-charter-schools-your-thoughts/page/2#post-208769

But if I use a browser from which I haven’t signed in, I can see his post. I still receive all email notifications, including DBP’s response.

Anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Earlier you said you were troubled by my “inane” comments and were going to ignore them. The forum gods must’ve heard your plea.

Problem is, the gods can’t tell the inane comments from the brilliant ones, so they just block everything.

    NFiorentini..

    click on your member profile

    go to edit

you may find that you have inadvertently ignored 365 stairs..

clicking on that ignore will make it go away

I am not sure how it happens…

Try as i might i never manage to inadvertently ignore kootch ;->

but i now check my ignore setting when i find the forum behaving strangely…

i hope that solves this for you.

Thank you, JoB. That fixed it.

DBP – The “forum gods” (who I suspect is you, because I cannot imagine that Tracy and company have the time to report on West Seattle and to monitor our nuttiness here that closely) should allow ME decide who to block and not block.

I would prefer to *choose* not to respond to your goofiness without someone (again, I suspect that person is you) making the decision for me via changing my own personal settings here. Furthermore, using the ignore feature means losing the flow of the thread, and seeing people responding to posts which I cannot see.

Unless you are somehow affiliated with the WBS in a manner which I am not aware (management, ownership, appointed forum god, etc.), please stop jacking with my settings. If you (DBP) are somehow part of WSB, then it’s dirty pool to debate with someone and then jack with their settings. In the latter case, you need to do a better job separating your roles here as “participant” and “moderator.”

In other words, if someone disagrees with you, getting the upper hand by messing with their settings is unethical.

This had better be tongue-in-cheek or your next post should be an apology to DBP. I don’t always agree with what DBP says, but to say something as wild and unsupported as:

“Unless you are somehow affiliated with the WBS in a manner which I am not aware (management, ownership, appointed forum god, etc.), please stop jacking with my settings. If you (DBP) are somehow part of WSB, then it’s dirty pool to debate with someone and then jack with their settings. In the latter case, you need to do a better job separating your roles here as “participant” and “moderator.”

This kind of behavior shows not only a lack of basic etiquette, but an extreme lack of judgment.

    Lessons learned from my Dad…

“Those who scream the loudest about others wrong doings without providing concrete proof are generally the ones who have walked a crooked path themselves.

“Look to the person doing the most strenuous finger pointing and you will find the person with the most secrets hidden in the closet.â€

Talaki – I don’t understand your concern on this issue.

    DBP said:

“Earlier you said you were troubled by my “inane” comments and were going to ignore them. The forum gods must’ve heard your plea.”

    I said:

“The “forum gods” (who I suspect is you, because I cannot imagine that Tracy and company have the time to report on West Seattle and to monitor our nuttiness here that closely) should allow ME decide who to block and not block.”

What would you think if, soon after reading this and through nothing that you did, my posts disappeared? And it turns out someone decided to “ignore” my posts for you?

So how am I the bad guy in this? I don’t understand.

for the record. DBP is not part of the management. He’s just another commenter, like me and you, NF. Also…DBP is a jokester at times…he SAYS things, that you can’t take literally. So, no, he did not cause your finger to indvertantly ignore 365. Even management doesn’t have the time to moderate things like that.

No one did this to you…it’s not a big conspiracy…

Guys, before this turns into some sort of bizarre misunderstanding flame war:

NO ONE has the configuration to do anything with anybody’s settings but Patrick and me. NO ONE. And that said, we have NEVER touched anyone’s settings unless (a) they needed a new password, or (b) they were spam accounts that needed to be stopped from spamming.

There are no “forum gods” with any sort of privileges, or pipeline to us. No one has moderation power. We do deeply appreciate those who click the “report this post” if they think something is breaking the rules, spam, or needs to be looked at (which is why apparently someone flagged us to this).

That said, as I have explained to people who have e-mailed us about glitches (and I would respectfully request that you e-mail us rather than opening a thread – I’ll see it sooner and can check on it), this software is kind of creaky. It was alpha (unbeknownst to us) when we had a kind volunteer tack it onto the site five years ago. Since then, it has become integrated with our content management system, but in a way that doesn’t allow us to take advantage of that unless we pretty much scratched everything that’s accumulated and started over. Don’t want to do that.

So for sometime now, it has been having weird glitches. A few days ago, I had to take a URL out of a longtime member’s profile and that’s all it took to fix a weird glitch (about which they had e-mailed us – we have no way to detect if your account is acting up, unless you tell us). There is no rhyme nor reason to software glitches and we are not experts; we hire experts from time to time to help, but our current one hasn’t been too available lately, so in fact we’re seeking a new one.

But in the meantime, if the OP here is still experiencing a problem and wants to e-mail me about it (editor@westseattleblog.com) I will do my best to look under the hood.

Fair enough. I’m dropping it. I have no reason to ignore 365Stairs and I strongly feel that I did *NOT* choose to ignore DBP. (I’m about like that cat that gets killed by curiosity.)

Combined with the immediacy of everything and the fact that I also do not know anyone here…who’s who, who does what, etc….screw it.

    DBP…if it wasn’t you, then I’m sorry.

NF, late last year I inadvertently “ignored” one of my favorite people on the Forums. She’s also become a personal friend.

Anyhow, the only thing I can figure happened, is that I was having an issue when I’d be scrolling a page, and something—-don’t know if it was a glitch in the computer, or the mouse—-would occasionally cause my scrolls to be come “automatic” and the page would scroll up/down (usually the opposite direction I actually was scrolling) uncontrollably.

I figure, in clicking the mouse to try to get it to stop, I clicked on the “Ignore” link under one of her posts.

WSB – I thought about emailing, but I thought that starting a thread was the less distracting option for you; you could be on the scene reporting on something incredibly important and then your phone signals you that you have an email containing my whine-of-the-moment.

Someone’s home is burning > Forum glitch = whine = my apparently-goofy conspiracy theory.

    That was my mindset anyway.

Now, if anyone wants to nuke this thread from orbit (it’s the only way to be sure), I’ve got no problems with that!

    please don’t nuke..

NFiorentini is not likely to be the only person to have had this confusion

at least this way people know how to fix it..

it happens to me regularly.. but since my hands are often less than steady i figure i somehow do it to myself and fix it.

I think this is just glitchy forum week. For a week I was replying to threads and then discovered no one could see them. I then created a thread and saw a box that the post was closed to new replies and was last replied to 42 years ago by Anonymous. TR finally helped figure it out thankfully!

I’ll still blame DBP even though it is impossible for him to have accomplished such an incredible feat of hacking brilliance. He’s a scoundrel of the highest order (tongue firmly planted in cheek).
