celeste17ParticipantToday I was driving along delridge and saw some food trucks loading or unloading at an commercial kitchen, and thought if they are prepping in west seattle why aren’t they selling in West Seattle?
I looked on the Web site and it looks like we only have a handful that set up shop here and I wonder wny? Do we not have
laces for them to set up? Do we have so many brick and mortar places we can’t sustain food trucks? We certainly have a big enough population to sustain the trucks. So why do we not get the food trucks?

WSBKeymasterActually, food trucks have had mixed results here. Several tried keeping regular days/hours at the West Seattle Corporate Center … not enough business to be worth their while. Hans VW on 35th was home to Marination for a long time; then they opened their bricks/mortar place. Snout & Co. was there on weekends for a while (loved them) but they didn’t make enough. A few trucks/carts have set up synergistically outside establishments without food – Beveridge Place for example – don’t know how that’s gone. Food trucks are often successful in busy places with lots of lunch traffic like SLU, but here in West Seattle, conventional wisdom is that since we’re a bedroom community of sorts, not enough people are around at lunchtime to sustain them AND the fixed-location restaurants. In earlier years, there was some major tension about that.
The trucks that seem to do OK are the ones in spots where no restaurants are nearby – a member of our household is a fan of Thai-U-Up, which spends several nights a week at the 76 station at 30th/Roxbury, a spot with no restaurants in sight – then there’s Beloved Mexico on Fauntleroy south of Alaska, not close to much – Taqueria el Antojo by the Lincoln Park Way gas station (assuming they’re still there, I haven’t looked lately!) – I don’t know how Nibbles, which has been spending some time over by the Eagles’ HQ in The Junction, is doing.
We also have a lot of park area, and Parks has some very particular rules about concessions. At least one local neighborhood group that tried to bring a food truck to an entertainment series in a park ran into a lot of red tape.
That’s just a bit of history. Likely other factors, and hopefully others will offer info/observations later in the day. – TR

rwParticipantAnother pretty good Mexican truck seems to have a permanent location just to the north of the Delridge Home Depot. But from Admiral it’s almost just as easy to visit the trucks in Sodo or Georgetown — especially when I have errands in those areas.

birdrescuerParticipantTaqueria el Antojo by the Lincoln Park Way gas station is still there and IMHO the best Mexican food around. The people are all very nice as well. I reward myself with their fish tacos after a good walk. It is ALWAYS busy

anonymeParticipantWish some trucks would visit 35th & Roxbury. It would be nice to have something available to Arbor Heights residents, other than the weirdness that currently inhabits that corner. That area would have been perfect for retail development.

StumbledoreMemberTaqueria el Antojo has the *world’s worst* horchata and the food is just okay.
White Center has much better and more authentic Latin fare. Plus, you can select from about 50 different medical marijuana establishments, if you don’t already have the munchies.

waynsterParticipantif you see this then I would question my choice of food trucks lmao….
http://www.gocomics.com/nonsequitur/2015/07/03 or back before the food trucks lmao….

JanSParticipantI love reading the reviews here…one thinks the truck near Lincoln Park is the best, one not nearly so enthused. Guess all one can do is go there and make up your own mind ;-)
Plus, Stumbledore..the Sheriff’s Dept is shutting those establishments down…am afraid you’ll have to go elsewhere to get munchified…oh, you do that…23rd and Union? Lovely intersection…:)

StumbledoreMemberAre they really shutting down the taco trucks in White Center?
There are cockroaches dancing on the tables at White Center Pho. Never seen anything terribly unsanitary around the taco trucks so if this is true it’s a shame.

beefParticipanti think she is talking about all the rogue medical cannabis stores and not the taco trucks. :)

datamuseParticipantI was gonna say, if they made Taqueria la Fondita close up shop then I’d be flipping ALL the tables. Best tacos and open LATE.

anonymeParticipantSame here, datamuse. In colder weather, nothing beats a La Fondita champurrado and a fresh-made tamale for break-lunch. And their sister location by McLendons has the best deal anywhere – the chipotle chicken enchilada plate for $3.99, with a free sauce and pickle bar (love those jalapeno carrots!).
