I may miss first word of the evening clips later as I’ll be out covering either the Cesar Chavez park dedication or Southwest Community Center park meeting … but here’s the clip from Roberta Romero’s package on the KING5 noon news:

Will add to the first home-page post too … my story with video clips of Michael and the burned-out store will be posted within 15 mins or so.

K5 did a great job, I thought. Switched over to KIRO afterwards. Small blip with no mention of WSB or the forum members present who are doing so much work. Said Admiral Pub was doing a benefit.

Kathy, you were da bomb! Looked/sounded great.

i think there will be another good story on the early evening news on other stations.

there were several reporters out there and a couple looked like they were doing a pretty thorough job.

i know kathy and i were both interviewed for KOMO

After the press conference today, i got to meet the other unintended victim of this fire… Eric Renn who has the business next door.. West Seattle Digital. 206-299-2635

His business is still closed due to damage.. although a lot of the interior work has been completed, he doesn’t think he will be able to open his store for another couple of weeks.

Eric says not to worry about him… he has a second job to carry him through and is still doing some business through telephone contacts… his problems aren’t nearly as drastic as those next door… but if we could send any business his way, he would appreciate it.

West Seattle Digital is a local connection for Clearwire Wireless broadband, XM radio and Dish network television.

Eric says the kind of community response to this fire is one reason he chose to settle in West Seattle.. that and our huge interest in healthy living and access to healthy food…. his work as a personal trainer is what is supporting him right now.

He had just moved here from Atlanta and opened his business before the fire and despite the setback is looking forward to getting it off the ground.

Eric is one of a large number of young small business owners who have settled in our community and often work more than one job to fund the luxury of keeping the doors to their small businesses open long enough to get established.

Eric is rapidly settling into the community. The program at the high school is helping him put a website together… and he confesses that he reads the West Seattle Blog to keep up on community issues.

Eric will be at the Admiral Pub on Saturday to show support for his fellow victim.. and to meet his neighbors.

I have to say, i was impressed at his upbeat attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to make this work.. for himself and for his new community. If his response to this fire is any indication, i am pretty sure he will do everything he can to earn your business.

Both these guys are to be commended for not giving up in the face of these setbacks.

we also reported on Eric’s status same day as the fire, as we had previous contact with him regarding his new business which we’d posted about some weeks earlier.

He’s also involved in a fun little program we’re part of at Chief Sealth High School this semester – the web design teacher is having his students build sites for local businesses that answered a solicitation to get involved (posted on wsb late last year) so we got to meet him at CSHS some weeks back — TR

he just emailed me to say there will be a flier coming out in one of the coupon mailings we get in the next couple of weeks…

looks like he is serious about jumpstarting his business.
