This morning a very friendly FEMALE (sorry I told Blog she was a he) orange/buff tabby hanging out on the sidewalk and street at the corner of 42nd and Edmunds. After keeping her at my office for a 4 hours — I took her to the West Seattle Aninmal Hospital. She is paid through Tuesday to be there and then they will call Animal Control who will keep her for 3 days before putting her up for adoption. In case the owner calls Animal Control trying to find her, I also called them and the cat should be on their recording.

She is very sweet, friendly, not chipped (please do it in the future), cant tell if she was spade, she has her claws. It appears that she once wore a collar, but otherwise there are no markings. See the picture on the blog pets tab.

Cats roam, its what they do. Ours has its collar and is chipped but I live in the area and have seen what may be this same cat wandering through our yard.

Do not take in cats that come into your yard! Even if they wait at the door. These are most likely someones cat and it probably would have just gone home rather than be put down in an animal shelter if you had just let it alone.

Rather than take it in your home shoo it away if you don’t want it around.

Collars these days all break away easily and you may have just sentenced someones pet to a terrible fate.

Marc, that was really unnecessarily harsh and, if you read the OP more carefully, you’d know it was also not the case here.

WS Animal Hospital shelters do not kill healthy animals — as Mary said, they find them a home. I just called to see if the kitty was still there, because I’d have taken her in if your dire predictions were true. What’s one more Katsky in an 8 room house?

Mary, you certainly did what I’d want if one of the katskys escaped — and I’m happy to hear that if this sweetie’s owners don’t check in, she’ll have a wonderful new home with you :-)

Marc, people’s pets aren’t supposed to be roaming the neighborhood. People who care about their cats keep them in the house. Mary did the right thing.

I bet this is the same cat that’s been hanging out a few blocks away, in the alley between Hudson & Dawson, just west of Fauntleroy. For the past 2 years. I always wondered if she belonged to someone in the alley, but usually I found her in my backyard, pressing her face against the back door glass, with my (indoor) cat on the other side trying to attack it through the glass. I haven’t seen the cat in a while, so I guess it moved on. If it’s the same cat, she really is sweet and affectionate (always rubbing against my leg if she sees me coming home). And before anyone asks, no, I never fed the cat to encourage it to keep coming back. I think she just wanted to try and play with my cat.

Marc et al – i feel particulaly pulled on this one. I was going to pay for a week just in case this was an outdoor cat that lost its way. The staff at the vet convinced me to shorten my offer 1- this very sweet cat was in a very dangerous location, 2- was hanging out on the sidewalk and has crossed a very busy intersection, 3-she was not chipped and while the fur had collar marks, there was no collar. Animal control will assure she is spade and at she gets chipped. I have 3 cats, all of which have chips AND are indoor only. My fear is the cat somehow escaped its home…. So rather than find a dead cat, i sent a message to the blog, paid for several dayS of the cat to be safe until the owner found it. If it were me, i would know my cat was missing after 8 hours and again if it were me, i would be frantically searching everywhere…. So the blog and notifying animal control were the best i could do. Not to be holy’er than tho…. Maybe this sweet cat will be adopted by a more caring family.
