a Let’s “FIX” the Problem Together event
to benefit Feral Cat Assistance & Trapping
and Friends of the Animals Foundation
Sunday, April 22, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
Rocksport Bar & Grill, 4209 SW Alaska
It will be an afternoon with compassionate people gathered to champion two organizations whose work is based in West Seattle, but helps many Western Washington communities. Event proceeds will:
• spay and neuter cats from all walks of life,
• assist in feral colony maintenance,
• and provide for medical and health needs of feral, rescue, and low-income cats.
Together, F.A.F. and F.C.A.T. spayed/neutered nearly 1,500 – and found homes for some 250 – cats and kittens last year. It’s all done with dedicated volunteers who put boots to the ground, making a real impact on the number of unwanted pets in local shelters. We will not only be raising money for these efforts, but will also be celebrating our community that we are grateful to be a part of.
All ages are welcome; no admission cost. There will be lots of fantastic silent auction items, purrraffle prizes, chair massages, and for the adults, a wine pull and drink specials. Come for the whole four hours or as long as you can!
Donations of wet or dry cat food are always appreciated and will gladly be accepted at the door.

funnygirl28MemberI’ve heard a lot of great things about FAF and FCAT lately — they’re local folks who’ve done a lot in and around West Seattle to help animals. I’ll do whatever I can to support these worthy organizations in helping even more animals in 2012 and beyond. Good luck with the fundraiser!

Well D(B)P, WE’RE going to take a little break from planning tomorrow to give a meow to Mike and then YOU’LL have a month to recuperate before Spring to Their Rescue, so I hope there will be no hospitalization involved :)

hammerheadParticipantYes kitten season has begun. I have my first mom of the season and her 6 babies(only 6 days old) and 5 little sickies.
I have asked DP to post pictures as I do not know how to do that.:)

This is a set of kittens that I just got 2 days ago. They are pretty sick. You should have seen them the day I got them, none of them could open their eyes, and had pus coming out of the eyes. Yes I know. Gross. But reality.

Yes, yes you do!! And the beauty of Rocksport is that there is plenty of space to be comfortable; not everyone has to be doing the same thing (except supporting FAF & FCAT!). Restaurant or bar, under-21 or somewhere north of it, watch the M’s game or not, play pool or trivia or…you get the idea. Of course, we’re pretty sure you’ll be tempted to join in all the fun we’re offering that day too, so mark your calendar and come on down!

Either one could, of course, have a single winning bidder, but if that’s a little much for your wallet alone…talk to some friends and pool your bids for a unique evening together! Each package is valued at $400.

waterworldParticipantFCAT: I’m interested in knowing more about the feral population out there, and how many feral cats you are able to trap, spay and neuter in a typical year? And what range you and FAF are able to cover (if you both do the TNS thing). Do you have a sense of the long-term results in the time that you have been doing this work — meaning, is it getting any better, or are we treading water? (Not that it changes my feelings about the importance of your work one whit; I’m just curious to know more.)
And I want another update on the sick kittens in foster care!

hammerheadParticipantFCAT has been trapping since 2000. I first must give a shout out to the Feral Cat S/N Project as neither of us could do what we do.
All number can be proved as the FCSNP has they have to keep the records. Since at least 2007 FCAT, I got my own clinics which were every 2 weeks and I brought in 50.(Yes I was able to trap that many) I still do that. As for kittens, the Fcsnp has kitten clinics during peak kitten season. I kept my records for 2010 and 2011. INCLUDING feral, kittens and people pets I averaged 1000 per year. Last year alone I was 12% of the FCSNP numbers.(so that averages about 5000 for the years of 2007-2011) prior to that, I would guess about 200-500 per year and that is when FCSNP was growing and providing more clinics to the public.
Seeing a difference? Well for the first time I have nothing to trap that has over 10 cats on my spreadsheet. I am going over to Eastern WA to help them. I have been told by the 3 local shelters they have seen a reduction in kittens although of course there are still those irresponsible people out there, so NO the problem will never go away. I will go pretty much any where to trap, as for FAF, she is a school teacher and works long tireless hours, she traps, yes. She helps me by taking in kittens to be adopted out at Next to Nature. So it is partnership.
Kittens doing great, the colds are gone and now waiting to get over 2 lbs and get fixed.:) then adopted.

waterworldParticipantWow! The work you all do is so amazing to me. I love animals and I’m partial to the kittehs, and it breaks my heart when I see the little ones so sick and facing the challenges of feral life. We are so fortunate to have people like you and FAF and FCNSP taking direct action to reduce the feral population safely and humanely.

FAF is a West Seattle based, 100% volunteer based, rescue organization. They count on your support to do what they do.
and ROCKSPORT is a local fixture! This auction is going to be AMAZING … and you’ll probably work up a hearty appetite, so it’s a good thing it’s at a place with delicious food.

justcuzMemberThe shopping WILL be good :) As for payment options? As they say, cash is king, but cash and checks are definitely preferred (no fees, which helps the bottom line – every dollar counts!). We do have the option to run cards through PayPal if need be. They simply take a small percentage for the convenience.

westcoastdebParticipantThis was one of the things I was looking forward to the most this April, and then a baby shower invitation appeared – I love FCAT and I love the Rocksport. Sad I will have to miss out on helping the cats quit breeding due to people breeding.
Seems people are always the problem ;)
Enjoy everyone, and 3 cheers to FCAT and FAF for kicking butt and taking names, or rather not taking names because there are too many butts to be kicked and not enough time.
