22bladesParticipantI was wondering if anyone else noticed or can shed light on the placement of dumpsters along California Avenue at the newish “Springline Apartments” on the 3400 block. The dumpsters are always on the sidewalk and approaching pick-up, they are overflowing with debris all over the place. It is a neighborhood blight. It was enough to put up with the construction. Is this the end state design?
I tried looking up the regulations but alas, I got drowned in links. 1. How can dumpsters placed on sidewalks be legal? 2. How can such a large development be approved for occupancy without provisions for solid waste handling?
Most of us that live here take pride in keeping our community clean and safe. This seems a bit appalling.

alkiwendyParticipantI’ve noticed that too. And the majority of the boxes are not broken down!

EdSaneParticipantA quick search shows that they’ve paid for several ongoing street use permits. Though the description is not very specific. I assume this is the one allowing the placement of the dumpster in a city right of way (e.g. sidewalk area).

heartlessParticipantI’ve noticed that also, I keep thinking it must be a temporary thing… but now I’m not so sure. I mean, it can’t be a permanent thing? Right? That would be too ridiculous.
ps
I don’t think the developers are hurting for cash, couldn’t they (shouldn’t they) store the dumpsters in the garage and hire someone to bring them out on collection day?July 13, 2018 at 4:35 pm #922269
anonymeParticipantI’ve never heard of such a thing. Dumpsters should be stored inside the facility, and Waste Management should have access. It’s insane that a permit should allow what is essentially an “alley vacation”, whereby the business has taken over a public right-of-way. There should be fines – not permits. Another backward day in Seattle…

EdSaneParticipantI should also mention that if there were concerns around the permit issuance SDOT can be contacted here: SDOTPermits@Seattle.gov
It doesn’t bother me but in the Westwood/South Delridge area I would welcome this kind of development over some of the blight I see daily (burned out buildings left to fester).

22bladesParticipantEight dumpsters & two full sized recycling bins on the street, sidewalk & drive. Really?!
