JiggersMemberHome sales have plunged 27.2%, the lowest in 11 years. Must be all Obama’s fault? He single handedly destroyed the American economy right? Who here believes he he did? Don’t be shy.

CarsonParticipantIt is Obama’s fault, unlike Bush who inherited a down economy with a huge deficit, Obama had a white hot economy and no deficit. Its all Obama’s fault we are in the mess we are in today…I mean if Daily Finance says its Obama’s fault, they must be right, its common sense!! Right on Jiggers, fair and balanced!

JoBParticipantcarson..
i never quite thought of it like that..
but you are right
that 30% clearly didn’t get any smarter..
August 24, 2010 at 9:20 pm #701305
CarsonParticipantJoB,
Its always been like that. 30% (more or less) go right, no matter what, the same number go left. Its the 40% in the middle that always make the difference. I used to be part of the former, until the religious right took ownership and I saw the light!

JoBParticipantMy in-laws stopped working for the republican party in Arizona when the religious right took ownership
but they never saw the light :(

Hope and Change!
September 4, 2010 at 5:17 pm #701311
JoBParticipanthave a good vacation?
the world as you know it plodded along without you…
but i had wondered why you were so quiet..
no internet access or just having too much fun to care?
as for hope and change….
have you wondered why the twin ideas of hope and change had such resonance with so many people in the last presidential election?
September 6, 2010 at 8:40 am #701312
HMC RichParticipantJeez, I HOPE unemployment doesn’t go any higher because all I have is CHANGE in my pocket. More political broken promises, as if I actually believed them in the first place. This is starting to remind me of the malaise of the seventies.
I hope this is the beginning of the end of progressivism. It is a back door virus that is poisoning our country. A change is necessary. And to think both parties have been part of problem. Too much of anything is usually detrimental.
Instead of a double dip recession, I will take a double dip on a waffle cone at Husky Deli, or if I go left, Full Tilt.
September 6, 2010 at 3:06 pm #701313
JoBParticipantHMCRich..
“progressivism” didn’t create the need for HOPE of employment and lack of CHANGE in your pocket…
unless of course you call what Goerge W brought to the White House “progressivism”….
But if you enjoy those states.. by all means.. bring the folks that brought this to you back again.
Big business will thank you.
they won’t employ you.. but they will appreciate your efforts just the same.
September 6, 2010 at 3:26 pm #701314
miwsParticipant“Too much of anything is usually detrimental.”
Yes Rich, that is correct.
And for far too long, the big corporations have been that “too much of anything”, controlling things in the name of capitalism. They have the wealth, and they yield the power. And they just love to see small business owners, what’s left of the middle class, the “blue collar” workers, the unemployed, and the poor, fight amongst themselves as to which one(s) in that group are are to blame for our country’s woes.
Does anyone think that’s what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they planted the seeds for our (what at least used to be) great Country?
Mike
September 8, 2010 at 9:51 am #701315
HMC RichParticipantIt is still a great country if you choose it to be. The American Dream is alive and well. I jest about HOPE and CHANGE but actually I want those and other dreams to be realized.
Corporate Greed is not what I and you want, is it? Just because Capitalism works, does not mean corporations or individuals should game the system. I see corporate greed and I see political greed. I have been affected by both. It is not pretty is it. Some of this can be changed but there are those who will always try to cheat. It hurts all of us.
I think many of you misunderstand my support for business. I am not a Corporatist, but a Capitalist. Once people are empowered to earn they have the right to do so. But they need balance and whether it be the Golden Rule, Religion, or some other higher value system, pure capitalism will degenerate in my opinion. We need to be kept in check. Government can do that, but government can over step its reach just like corporate greed can screw big and little guys.
Many of you I am guessing looked at disdain at the Beck gathering. It had an agenda. A friend of mine called it Whitestock which I did find amusing. But, It was about principles and the principles espoused by many in this country. This was not about starting a theocracy but using honorable tenets to live by. To be honest. To be charitable. To give the individual the respect that is so deserving. Is that so bad? To some of you it is. Accountability is needed. If the principles are clear and relatively agreed upon, we can all make a difference with our children and our peers. Let us not poison their minds but teach them respect, honor, thrift, and a few other ideals. Are we so far apart?
True businesses have to basically stay solvent. That is why layoffs and cutbacks are so harsh. Government can and will go into debt. It does not play by the rules of good economy at times. The problem with such a disregard for income from taxation is that the government can promise action, sort of deal with the problem, and not have to deal with the ramifications until it is too late. Look how bad Social Security and Medicare will be when you and I really need it. It may not be around. You can only blame the politicians for that one no matter who lobbied them.
MIWS, I do not support greed be it private or public. I do support opportunity. Why is it not a great country anymore? It is by far not perfect but it is wonderful to live here for the majority of people as far as I can tell. I for one like it here and plan to stay.
September 8, 2010 at 10:18 am #701316
HMC RichParticipantJoB, some aspects of the Progressive movement I truly believe were acted upon to help people. But, when Woodrow Wilson segregated the Government and Military, hired thugs to spread his message, threw people of various ethnicities in camps and spawned the propoganda machine that the Third Reich borrowed, I get a little testy too. So please, do not attempt to paint every Republican and conservative as defenders of greed and racism. History bears out the mistakes and triumphs of the past.
We may have some vehement disagreements over some issues, but wanting what is best for individuals and society is worth talking about. Put another way. If government was bad under the Republicans, then it must be bad some of the time under the Democrats too. Nothing is 100 percent correct or wrong in politics.
When is the last time you spoke with your federal leadership face to face? When was the last time you spoke or shook hands with a local representative? I felt much more in touch at the West Seattle Parade meeting the candidates than I did communicating through an email to Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Cantwell. That is why I choose Local and State over Federal. You espouse buying local, so why don’t we also govern more locally? Is that not what the Founders espoused also? Limited government is gone.
As far as the now, even Orszag and Romer are saying Obama should not drop the Bush tax cuts until later. Do we have a say about this? Directly no. Well at least not until November.
September 8, 2010 at 3:11 pm #701317
JoBParticipantHMCRich…
When a man talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk… what do you call that?
Because the ugly truth about Beck is that he talks the talk..
but if you follow the money you will find a man named Koch funding those rallies …
Koch is definately one of those corporate robber barons that Beck claims he is against.
As for the Bush Tax cuts…
“As far as the now, even Orszag and Romer are saying Obama should not drop the Bush tax cuts until later. Do we have a say about this? Directly no. Well at least not until November.”
what exactly do you think you will get a chance to say in November?
Do you think putting politicians in office who did their best to block the extension of unemployment benefits is in your best interests?
Do you think putting politicians in office who never saw a middle class tax cut they wouldn’t like to end but will fight to the end for tax cuts for the ultra wealthy is in your best interests?
Do you think putting the politicians in office who will fight tooth and nail for public oil company subsidies but block a program to build public infrastructure is in your best interests?
Infrastructure matters.
Do you plan on crossing any of our nation’s bridges?
It will take 100 billion to restore our nation’s bridges to safety… and that’s just for the ones currently identified as unsafe.
We have a 97 billion dollar shortfall right now for that work.
Delayed maintenance is what dumped an interstate bridge in Minnesota into the Mississippi… killing people and disrupting traffic… and that one won’t be the last unless we start investing in public safety.
Isn’t it time you asked yourself what is really in your best interests instead of just buying the rhetoric designed to make you forget that those policies are destroying what you are calling Capitalism?
You often refer to events that happened nearly a century ago when you speak of democrats. Where do you get that material?
More important, why do you think those you are listening to want you to concentrate on arcane history instead of examining what has been happening in our country in the last decade.. or two ?
There is a question worth answering.
If you think Glen Beck wants you to think for yourself… next time you watch or listen to him start counting how many times he repeats his bullet points…
rule of thumb for sales.. repeat any relevant point at least three times…
Glen Beck far exceeds that… which gives you some indication of exactly how dense he thinks his audience really is…
Glen Beck is a salesman.
Perhaps it’s time to ask yourself just what he is selling. Because chances are it isn’t what you think you are buying.
September 8, 2010 at 3:18 pm #701318
CarsonParticipantJoB,
Do you actually watch Morton Downey Beck Jr? I thought he was just a Comedy Central reject act? If you are not sure he is a total, 100% racist just check out his “heros”. Of all the Founding Fathers he could have picked, he picked all slave owners. What the left needs to do, and they have started, is to make him the label of the right. He wants to take us back to a better, simpler time for sure!!
September 8, 2010 at 3:29 pm #701319
JoBParticipantCarson…
i don’t have the patience to actually watch him… with his white board of manufactured connections… but do occassionally subject myself to his radio show while in the car just to hear what he is selling… and how he is packaging it.
You don’t have to go so far as to noting which founding fathers Beck idolizes to know what he would like to make of our world. Listen to his commercials… to what he sells his listeners while he is selling his stories.
Glen Beck never met a mark he didn’t think he could get more out of…
he makes sure he has his fingers in their pockets first every single time he broadcasts.
That’s the real Glen Beck.
September 8, 2010 at 3:35 pm #701320
CarsonParticipantI tried to listen, I made it about 1 minute. I prefer to watch Stewart/Colbert just make fun of him.
September 8, 2010 at 5:17 pm #701321
JoBParticipantCarson…
i can’t say i am enriched by the experience :(
but.. i do believe context matters… and the jokes could be based on material taken totally out of context.
As it happens.. they turn out to be a fair representation..
but i wouldn’t have known that without listening more than once for myself.
September 8, 2010 at 5:19 pm #701322
CarsonParticipantWhen he stands in front of posters that mock Obama, and the posters are all slave owners its tough to take him serious.
September 8, 2010 at 6:47 pm #701323
JoBParticipantCarson…
too many people do take Glen Beck seriously…
Glen Beck’s job is to inflame anger through any means possible..
because an angry electorate kicks the incumbent to the curb.
it never deals with the problem…
but kicking a.. feels good..
even better when you think you are being righteous about it…
and glen beck is all about making people feel righteous.
truth? integrity?
just buzzwords to Glen Beck..
the oldest trick in the book is to blame someone else for what you are doing.
and people are falling for it :(
I would like to think Glen Beck is just a sick joke…
but he is a very real threat to our political future…
worse..
he is a threat to our economic future.
the greedy bastards haven’t milked every penny out of the middle class yet…
he is a threat to our environmental future
deregulation means open season on dumping toxic waste in your neighborhood
he is a threat to our public safety
at this point every penny saved in deferred maintenance increases the odds that you will be a victim of a roadway collapse
he is a threat to our moral integrity
when lies are passed off as truth without challenge.. the difference between right and wrong is translated as might makes right..
he is a threat to our legal system…
the latest supreme court ruling on campaign contributions just put our electoral process up for sale .. in a totally blind auction.. you don’t even get to see who is buying you…
this man and what he is doing is no joke.
Unfortunately, it’s too late to educate those who have bought his personal toxic blend of lies and fiction before the coming election. They drank the kool-aid and are true believers…
reason is wasted.
The only way we can neutralize Glen Beck and his cronies is to make sure that we show up at the polls in numbers way to big to ignore.
This election isn’t over unless we give it to them through indifference… and we do so at our own peril.
September 8, 2010 at 6:50 pm #701324
CarsonParticipantJoB,
Again, 30% thought Bush was doing a great job when he left office. Where do you think those wing nuts went? Its always been that way, it always will be that way, the best therapy is to just laugh at them.
September 8, 2010 at 7:06 pm #701325
JoBParticipantCarson…
you might want to recount the number of wingnuts..
the republican party has
political pundits have
and they have already called the election.
maybe it’s time to take this seriously…
or should we just wait till after the elections and hang our heads in shame at the antics of our elected officials…
like we did with Bush?
September 8, 2010 at 7:12 pm #701326
CarsonParticipantJoB,
The right will win again. Maybe not in 2010, maybe in 2012, and then they might lose it back to the left in 2014. It happens. It has always happened. It always will happen. I wish it didn’t, but it always has and always will. We can all cry in our beer come Nov, until then work for a different result but its real tough to change proven history.
