robMemberHello folks!
I have about 3 computers I want to donate. I’ve read somewhere there was a place in WS where I can bring them and they’ll give me tax deduction form.
Does any one knows the location?

KenParticipantAre any of them laptops? I have a few I am looking for parts for…
I got not tax forms or the right to use them though.

JenVMemberKen, I have an old Dell laptop that you’re welcome to. It died a horrible death and is only good for parts.

KenParticipantI have a couple of dells on the bench to fix. You want to email or pm contact info? I drive over to Layfayette school twice a day so I go close to much of WS often.

kennyMemberHi Rob,
I took my computer for donation to C.S.S. they are located at 6030 California Ave SW Seattle 98136.
A computer repair store. They work with Interconnection a Seattle based non-profit organization. I like what they are doing there!

KenParticipantInterconnection is a good org.
I drop off almost as much stuff as I buy from their retail store. :) They usually have 4 to 6 year old laptops for less than 200.00.
And re macs
I have one dual usb ibook that needs a lcd screen and a couple of newer mac laptops that are loose parts in boxes which I don’t remember the model numbers of at the moment.
If you want to get rid of them I could check them for salvageable parts and drop the rest off next time I go.

alki_2008ParticipantScott – do you know if you’re given a tax deduction form with E-Cycle? I think “recycling” with E-Cycle is just for getting rid of your electronics, but it’s not considered a charitable “donation”…and so there’s no charitable contribution receipt that can be used for Schedule A deductions.
rob – if you find a good place that gives you a donation receipt for tax purposes, then please do post here with the info. I’ll need to clear out the storage area soon and would also like to “donate” somewhere if possible.

AnonymousInactivealki_2008,
I think you are right about the lack of a charitable donation. The E-Cycle program will disrupt things, but dunno the extent. I have read that electronics cannot be tinkered with for resale if a business participates in the E-Cycle program. The program will probably change things for RE-PC

robMemberalki_2008,
I took my computers to C.S.S.today. The guys there were very helpful. Apparently that computer store also works closely with Interconnection in helping people who cannot afford a computer to rebuild and reuse old computers and keep waste material out of the landfills. They gave me a tax deduction receipt and a free repair coupon for my laptop(it needs some cleaning). It is a win win for all of us. The address is 6030 California Ave SW. I can post their phone number if anyone is interested.

alki_2008ParticipantThanks Rob!
Found this page on their site that mentions the tax-deduction receipt they’ll give for CPU’s only: http://www.allcss.com/social_responsibility.html
Looks like there are other places that will also take monitors for “donation” (not in West Seattle though): http://www.interconnection.org/give_donate.html

jschuMemberE-cycle works they have a place on 4th by PSE. They want you to leave the hard drive in -otherwise they $$ charge. but if you have personal info on hard drive it can be a concern. I disabled my hard drive with a drill and left it in the PC box. No charge – ok with that. People on loading dock are friendly.

robMemberI think at C.S.S they take your old monitors now. I brought mine and there were no questions.
