I recently moved to West Seattle and am looking for a good vet for my dog. I want a place that’s open a little bit into the evening and also at least one day on the weekend. I’m a bit picky about my vet and I typically find one I like and stick to him/her. So I’m looking for a place with a bit of a personal touch.

In addition to the name of a clinic, how about the name of the doc you like? Any suggestions?

I can only suggest that you avoid VCA West Seattle Veterinary on California.

Greentree Animal Hospital on California Ave SW took wonderful care of our dog for almost 17years. We put her down end of August, just 4 month shy of her 17th b’day. They were very good to her.

Greentree is at 4440 California Ave Sw, 932-5539.

Lien Animal Clinic on SW Alaska.

They’ve been our dogs vet for over 14 years and Dr. Kraabel is the best.

I can second the recommendation for Lien Animal Clinic. We were going to Burien for Vet care for years and only changed because we wanted some place closer. West Seattle friends highly recommended Lien. We have gotten care from Dr K. and also his wife, Dr. Fritzler and both were tuned in to us and our pooch. We have also seen Dr. Fisher and that too went well. So, we have only not seen Dr. F’s wife who also works there, she is Dr Wychra. With three of the four vets providing good care…(and we are choosey!) I imagine that Dr Wychra would be a good choice too.

Admiral Vet–I liked Greentree, too, but switched after I moved back to Admiral. Don Shaffer, with coffee mug in one hand.

Lien Animal Clinic is superb – best Vets I’ve ever had. Dr Kraabel is our fave, although all the Vets at Lien are great. Highly recommend….

I disagree with the recommendation against VCA West Seattle. I have been taking my two dogs to Dr. Cary Waterhouse there and couldn’t be happier. I am very particular about my vet because I will soon be starting a dog breeding business, so my girls need to be in top health.

Dr. Waterhouse is very sharp and up on all the latest research, and has been completely willing to talk through my concerns and questions. I have not dealt with any of the other vets there, but Dr. Waterhouse specifically has been fantastic.

Lien Animal Clinic has been our vet of choice since we moved to West Seattle one year ago. We lost our first pup to a misdiagnosis by a bad vet at Elliot Bay Animal Clinic so we are very careful about who sees our boys. Lien has always been very understanding and accommodating with my high-maintenance demands regarding their health care.

They also do not automatically throw pills and injections at every situation that comes up.

We highly recommend Lien Animal Clinic.

Lien is the best. I’ve been taking my cats there for more than 10 years. When I had to put my first kitty to sleep they came to my house to do this so he wasnt spending his last moments in the car. I will always appreciate how kind they were during that time.

My various mini schnauzers have been going to Greentree for over 17 years. We love Dr. McKim a lot. He seems to be coming more dog like over the years. ;-) I swear he is hiding a tail under his doctor coat. He is very knowledgeable and extremely pleasant and caring. His staff is quite sweet as well.

I now take my dogs do Lien as well and have been very happy.

I used to take my dogs to West Seattle VCA, when Dr. Keast was still there. He was the only vet I would see. I ended up taking my older dog (who has since passed away :( )there in an emergency last Spring and was so unhappy. It seemed like they were going through a lot of changes. Nobody seemed to be on the same page. The staff were arguing loudly in front of everyone. I switched to Lien and have never been happier. I also discovered how much more expensive West Seattle VCA was. I was quite shocked when I got the bill for my first visit at Lien, it was about 1/4th what I was expecting.

I have been taking my dogs to Lien for 12 years. I totally agree with all the posters (except maybe that they are less expensive – we joke that we have put thier kids through college). Dr. Kraable is rational, compassionate and very open to alternative therapies, which I really appreciate!

What I want to say is that when both of my older dogs reached the end of their lives, Dr Fritzler came to the house to put them to sleep. I cannot tell you enough how much that meant to me. I would pay any price for that kind of commitment and compassion.

My tazmanian devil (lab/aussie mix) loves Dr. Gomez at West Seattle Animal Hospital. She’s so patient and accommodating, and she managed to calm him down enough to get a shot! We were amazed.

I second Cait with Dr. Gomez at West Seattle Animal Hospital. Everyone there is wonderful. I think between my three pets, we’ve pretty much met all the vets and I would go back to all of them. Plus they are open everyday, even on Sundays.

We went to Greentree when we first moved to West Seattle, but they were really unorganized and couldn’t provide us with proper vaccination records for our dog to be boarded. That’s when we knew we had to leave Greentree.

First welcome to West Seattle yonalamamona!!! I have heard great things about Lien, however, much like yourself I need to have a vet who has a variety of hours available. Because of that I choose West Seattle Animal Clinic, below Jefferson Square on Alaska. They are open 7 days a week with early & late hours. I have reccomended several friends who are all pleased with the care their animals are receiving. I have been taking my dog kids to them for 15 years now. In that time, they have seen 4 of my brood. Holding my hands throught the sad times putting the love of my life Tess to sleep last year after nearly 17 years on this earth! I ADORE both Nesa & Travis (Dr. Quincy & Dr. Robertson) they are both the kind of doctors who clearly l o v e animals and drop right down on the floor to share snuggles & kisses! I have a 5year old Border/Aussie mix who was very badly abused & Nesa is practically a cheerleader for Lulu, championing every small stride she has made in the 4+ years we have been together! This year I rescued a Catahoula pup and Nesa brought tears to my eyes when upon first meeting her she exclaimed She reminds me of TESS! I live close by so the “girls” & I will often just swing in for a cookie & to say hi to the staff, which are also very friendly!!! That way they think of the office as a cookie store rather then the evil vet’s office. Best of luck to you & yours!
