service dog academyMemberI run the Service Dog Academy and in cooperation with Seattle Parks and Recreation will be holding Pet and Service Dog training classes starting in January at Delridge Community Center. We use the latest positive reinforcement training techniques based scientific research and insist on small class sizes to ensure one on one attention. Registration for the 6 week, $80 classes begins December 8th through the Seattle Parks and Recreation SPARC system. JoBParticipanti am delighted you are offering this class… it will help people take advantage of the personal freedom a well trained service dog provides…
Unfortunately, I have one dog that is not dog friendly and the other is not people friendly so i wouldn't qualify for this class even though i have trained my dogs to assist me… If i could,i would take the class with them just to get the certifications.
if i could offer one suggestion… it would be to link the requirement for a disability as defined by the Americans with a disability act to the official website and definition.
even i had to check to see if my disability would be covered…

service dog academyMembercarol: Thanks for enrolling. Did you know you can use the training techniques im going to show you to train your CAT too?
wundrgrrrl: I chose to start training at the community center for just that reason.
hopey: Its hard to get into the organic searches through google if you dont spend money on their ads. at this point since we are serving an underfunded community (people who are disabled and on disability) our budget is severely underfunded. We do evaluate puppies for service work using a 22 item evaluation. Call me if you would like to get one evaluated.
For those of you who tried to register but didnt get to since the class filled up so quickly, there will be another session added to the SPARC system in the coming days. The additional class is scheduled for Monday nights at 7:30pm starting January 25th.

service dog academyMemberThere are still 3 open spots in tonights class that meets at 7:30 PM at the Delridge Community Center. You can just show up with your dog and your money tonight if you like. Be sure to also bring 2 cups of high value rewards (NOT KIBBLE!) and a high value chew item such as a kong, a raw bone or a bully stick.
