marywsParticipantalong the lines of our fabulous WSB? I live in WS but am involved with an organization in Columbia City/South Seattle and looking for a venue to post events/announcements, etc. As far as I can tell, the WSB is pretty consistent about confining its stuff to WS (rightly so). So, any suggestions? thanks in advance. I’ve looked on the web but not found anything…

For the latest forum discussions, go to “discuss” on the blue menu bar at the top, then “recent posts.”

It’s a wiki, but the editors also post a weekly newsletter, which includes a daily calendar at the top.

Regarding #2, no, they do not. Community news is only authentically done independently, not by some multimillion dollar big-media corp that once in a while throws up a news release or rehashes something the area’s real community-news sources covered. Their “sites” are run by a corporation called DataSphere whose real investment is in advertising-sales boiler rooms (they’re spending millions to build one in Arizona –
If someone pretends to be selling you local advertising, ask not only how many people really read the site, but also where your money is really going). But I digress. Yeah, I know, that’s capitalism. But everything we get goes back into newsgathering/reporting/photographing/publishing. Not call centers in Arizona.
Just reiterating, where you can find a local INDEPENDENT, AUTHENTIC community news source, please support that. And thank you for supporting us.
FOR THE OP:
Rod’s recommendation for Columbia City is a good one. In South Park, if you are not familiar with their Yahoo list, it and allaboutsouthpark.com truly rock. The Yahoo! list is at:

There is also http://beaconhillblog.com for that area. And if you’re close enough to Pioneer Square, check out http://www.thenewpioneersquare.com/blog/
Central District News is still going, though their longtime editor moved on.

Sadly http://blogginggeorgetown.com doesn’t post often but you can give him a try.
Hope that helps a bit.

chrismaParticipant@luckymom30: did you happen to notice that the most recent post on the Columbia City Blog is a year and a half old. Not exactly current or active, I would say.

Kind of reminds me of one of the lyrics from the Frank Zappa song, “Cozmik Debris” released in 1974.
“Look here brother,
Who you jivin’ with that Cosmik Debris?
(Now is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?)”
“real poncho” in this case, being the WSB.

miwsParticipantWow! Zappa lyrics that are actually printable in a G/PG forum! ;-)
Just remember folks, no matter how well run the other (non-corporate) neighborhood hyperlocal sites are, and with all due respect to our friends in the other Seattle communities, our very own WSB is the best!
(I can state that as fact, even though I have only very rarely visited maybe one or two of the other sites.) ;-)

Cosmik Debris
A live version with some changes of the original lyrics and a classic sax solo.
Zappa live was always a great show.

KevinParticipant@Ken – thanks for the additional background – in this case the referenced lyrics are about 7:16′ into the video, Thanks Ken. I remember the song well from my youth. :)
