We are getting rid of cable TV to switch exclusively to our roku and Netflix/Hulu. We hate Comcast so much for their terrible customer service and deceptive business practices. We are thinking of switching to CenturyLink, our only other option in our building. But we hear their speeds are slow, they lie about their actual speeds and capacity, and their customer service also is horrible. For someone who works online from home, watches a LOT of netflix/hulu, and plays online games, what is the best choice and at what speed in y’all’s opinion here in WS?

Frankly, Comcast has better customer service than CenturyLink. I too, work from home and have demanding bandwidth needs (I write music for films and video games). In my experience, Comcast is still the best, unfortunately. I have been looking around for a good performance comparison between Comcast and CenturyLink, but most comparisons are about CenturyLink’s old DSL service, rather than the new fiber service that has recently become available throughout much of WS. If Wave ever becomes available in your building, then jump on that. I’ve heard universally good reports on it.

If you do a lot of video streaming, Comcast is the way to go. Centurylink speeds just weren’t cutting it in our household. We do not have cable for tv – just for internet only (and we have Ooma for our home phone). We pay around $75 for our internet with Comcast with nothing else included. Sorry I don’t have a better answer for you. It is ridiculous we don’t have better options in Seattle!

I don’t know about comparison speeds or multiple uses. I do know that as of today, I can no longer get my email through Clearwire – although they haven’t offered to cut what they charge me.

The notice they sent me said that Tech Services would help me set up another account. I called Sunday. The tech said, after talking for about an hour, that, oh, you don’t need to worry, since you get your Clearwire account through the Mac Mail program you won’t lose your email. I asked three times, “I’ll be able to get mail at my Clearwire address?” Each time she assured me I could.

Yesterday I called about something else. That tech said, “Why bother when you’re going to lose your mail tonight?”

This one did, at least, get that much right.

I agree that Customer Service at Clearwire is poor.

Comcast is faster. They both have horrible customer service. Clearwire I would get out of. They have been sold and are basically slowly going out of business.

We’ve had CenturyLink internet for a couple years and have been very happy. I use internet to work work from home some days & do occasionally find it a bit slower than Comcast cable was, but for $30 per month vs. $75, I’ll deal with it! And we recently hooked up our Roku with Netflix, HBO GO & Amazon Prime & have been very happy with the feed. Occasionally there’s been a lag, but once again went from monthly Comcast bill of $150 to maybe $25 (not counting initial investment of equipment & annual Amazon Prime membership). Now we wish we’d cut the Comcast cord years ago!
