r26MemberWhat is the closest feed store y’all use for chicken supplies?
I’ve driven to Monroe and love it – but it’s far. I’ve gone down to Burien and they had nothing in stock.
What’s your favorite chicken supply store?

herongrrrlParticipantWhat supplies are you looking for, specifically? I’ve never had a problem finding feed at the Burien store, I think they’ve been out of stock once in the five years I’ve kept hens. The one time we needed some medicine, they had it there too. To build and furnish out coop we found some of what we needed at McLendon’s and Petco, too.

r26MemberThey only had non organic adult feed, and I needed wood pine shavings that they also did not have.
I also needed lime for the yard and they didn’t have that either.

I thought I was the only one annoyed with Hayes for not carrying anything related to chickens. They’ve been out of feeding dishes for almost 3 weeks now, and I bought their last chick waterer at the same time. They still haven’t received new ones. I finally gave up and ordered supplies on the internet after hearing the staff tell me, “we’ll get that in early next week” twice.
Anyways, I bought their last bag of pine shavings last weekend. Sorry about that. I can share if you need some immediately. Let me know.

r26MemberStina – thanks! We are OK. I would just like a feed store that has what I need when I drive out to get it! :)

LuckieParticipantI go to the feed store in Burien (Hayes/Kirk’s) for simple, quick stuff such as a bag of grain or a bale of straw. If I want anything else, I go to the Grange in Issaquah. They are fabulously stocked with just about everything.

voodooMemberI saw an online ad for City People’s Garden Store that says they have chicken feed. Not sure if that helps you out…

guidosmomMemberI don’t have chickens, but have to go to feedstores for horses. The Burien feed store is convenient, but rarely has what I need so it’s best to call first. The Grange in Issaquah is great! And not far at all if you don’t go during rush hour. There is also Reber Ranch in Kent which isn’t too far: http://www.reberranch.com/
and if you happen to be up North, Deyoung’s in Woodinville is great:

Heinz57MomMemberAnyone going to City People’s check your Chinook book for a coupon good for 15% on your next purchase. (exp. 10/31/2010)
I don’t have chickens and probably have a few coupons to spare if anyone wants them.

JanSParticipantI don’t have chickens (except in my mind), but a friend in Fed. Way does. He asked me to save my egg shells, old lettuce and other greens, veggie garbage, as they gobble it up. And I got some wonderful fresh eggs this past Wednesday…yummmm…!!
does this help any?

DubheadMemberNot sure if this was mentioned here but this might be a great resource for folks in W. Seattle wanting organic chicken feed (and others):

DianaParticipantHayes/Kirks in Burien is where I go but I’ve learned to plan ahead for what I need and call ahead to see if they have it. They are a little disorganized but I try to cut them some slack as they are a small family business. In this economic climate it’s hard for a small business to carry a lot of inventory. They are nice folks, know their stuff, and try to get to know you if you are a regular.
