ellenaterMemberGreetings cell phone users.
I have T-Mobile currently and am CONSTANTLY losing my signals. I virtually never have bars in my home. This obviously sucks. Just wondering what cell companies work in West Seattle. Seattle is weird! In North Seattle, I had to get rid of Verizon and get T-Mobile.
Also, I’m considering getting an iPhone from Santa. Santa doesn’t know that yet but he will soon! But I think you have to get At&T. Anyone have an iPhone or know someone here who does?
Also, I’m not really interested in which cell company is corporate and evil. I just want the best reception for myself because it is the holiday time of year.
Thank you and Happy Holidaze!

IrukandjiParticipantI’ve had ’em all at one time or another, and though I don’t have an iPhone I do have AT&T. Happy with AT&T both for reception and customer service. I happily paid the early termination fee to dump Verizon.

ZenguyParticipantThere was a whole thread on this complete will cell coverage maps, but I cannot find it. Anyone remember the Thread heading?

swimcatMemberT-Mobile has a map on their website that shows their coverage area and their weak spots- you may want to verify that you are in a bad coverage area before switching. It could just be your phone if you’re using an old one.
If you do want an iphone, you’ll need to switch to AT&T. If you want to stick with T-Mobile (they definitely have better customer service than AT&T)check out their google phone. it’s pretty cool!

ellenaterMemberThanks guys. I did google first but didn’t come up with the thread, either…
My phone is pretty new, although not top of the line, so I don’t think it’s the phone. But I’ll check the coverage area anyway. I want a new phone either way.

yumpearsParticipantMy husband and I both have sprint pcs – we are near the Alaska Junction. I have never had a dropped call in West Seattle.

beachdrivegirlParticipantI have an I-Phone and am with AT&T (obviously). I love both. My phone works 99% of the time in West Seattle. It gets spotty in one spot going down Admiral right before the bridge and underneath my carport area it never has service. Other than that, it works really well. I love the gps mapping, the applications, and everything in general about the iphone. the only thing I miss from my blackberry is that on my blackberry they had voice dialing so in the car i could say call mom and it would call my mom. the iphone does not have that. Also between the iphone and the blackberry; the blackberry does have a better camera system. I was also with TMobile before and was not only unhappy with their service, but also with their customer service. However, with AT&T I have beeen really pleased with all of their customer support. Hopefully Santa makes your Christmas wish come true. :)

ellenaterMemberAhhhh, thanks beachdrivegirl. Exactly what I was hoping. If Santa knows what’s good for him, he’ll deliver.
yumpears, that is the best name EVER. :)

JoeyMemberThe iPhone is TREMENDOUS.
Great phone
Good text/email device
Solid GPS
Superior web browsing
Unlimited applications to download
And oh, by the way – it’s a ipod!
I think of it as my own little “netbook”, really.
The main difference between the iPhone and the
others(like g-phones) is that is OSX based, which makes it
far superior to anything else.
The only thing you’ll need to get used to is the
virtual keyboard. I liked my blackberry keys better at first
but after one week I was typing faster with the virtual than I was
with the BB.
Good Luck!

ellenaterMemberOh thanks Joey!
I got to play with one tonight and feel in love. I am a Mac person so am excited by virtually anythign Mac. The camera is fun, too. Can you play videos on it? Yes, I realize I can just look that up but it’s so much more fun to talk about!!

ejonesMemberi can’t remeber what your problem with my sidekick was… guess that makes it easier to not care.

ellenaterMemberejones, you are ‘this’ close to mud wrestling :)
I liked your sidekick a lot actually. The keyboard is WAY better. I just wanna be able to sync with my Mac.
Thanks TR. VERY helpful.

JoeyMemberYou can play videos on in, but can’t film video -just still camera.
The videos are great for airplane trips or long car rides – especially if you have kids!
I’m a mac guy, so it was an easy sell, but the general public (PC users) are finally getting the idea that this iPhone thing is more than just a short-term craze.
It really kicks butt.

villagegreenMemberFor what it’s worth, I have T-Mobile and almost never lose my signal in West Seattle. However, it’s awful in Beacon Hill (or Bacon Hill as I guess it is now known).

vincentMemberI have t-mobile, and a iPhone ( unlocking is trival, the hardest part is getting one ) the biggest areas that get me is cresting 35th ave on the way into downtown and driving down the west seattle bridge in the section near avalon.
The problem is actually carrier agnostic and is the result of the mayor, and all the nimbys who hounded him to put a moratorium on new cell towers years ago. Much like changing traffic lanes and paving, people like to freak out at any implication of change no matter how it might effect their well being or future.

ejonesMemberMy sidekick takes videos. And reception is always good enough to make use of my full keyboard.
Bring it on (in a few more months)!
December 13, 2008 at 1:33 am #649861
ellenaterMemberlol, els… you’re killin’ me :) you’re like my long, lost, badass sister. where have you been all my life?!
Well the t-mobile map says I should have decent (not the best) coverage at my house. But my contract is for another 6 months. Vincent, can you unlock and switch carriers down the road? ANd how does one unlock it?
Joey, they are offering the people at my husband’s office the choice between iPhones and Blackberrys. I think that’s a sign that the public is catching on. The video option is key. First I was going to get a portable dvd player, then an ipod touch (not enough gigs), and then an ipod. I finally realized I can get it ALL, lol. Mac makes the world such a nice (if not overpriced) place.
