Our much loved and dearly missed 16-year-old collie, Missy, was found deceased after a very emotional search than lasted nearly three weeks.

We searched with some hope because we hired Harry Oakes to bring his “search dogs” to try to follow the trail.

A very sincere thanks to Amy, who e-mailed me to let me know that we shouldn’t put much faith into this hack. However, we did believe that Missy was not nearby because we assumed that even a terrible searcher would have found her if she was in the immediate area where the “search dogs” went. Well, his dogs were within three feet of Missy and didn’t find her (she was less than 200 feet from our house). He told us she got picked up alive on the beach. His “search dogs” are just DOGS (not trained, not responsive, not anything) and he has no idea what he’s doing. This guy is a CON MAN. He offers false hope while robbing you. I understand that search dogs are not guaranteed nor a fool-proof system, but again, his dogs walked within several feet of our baby and didn’t so much as sniff. He flat-out lied to us about the trail ending with the dog being alive. This guy is a thief and frankly, his con is ridiculously cruel. If you lose your pet, do not, not, not hire his guy.

Thanks again to everyone who helped us try to find Missy. Her ashes are being returned to us in a couple of weeks.

So sorry about your loss. I checked the blog every day to see if you found her. Though not a happy ending, you do know what happened. Also, sorry about the scam. What heartlessness.

I hope Missy passed peacefully with 16 years of memories to keep her company.

Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss. Even though I was hoping for a happy reunion, I’m glad you know what happened to her. Since she was so close to home, that probably means that she never wandered very far and had a quiet and gentle passing.

People who prey on others’ pain are the lowest of the low. That is an unbelievably cruel thing to do, and hopefully this will help expose him for what he is so no one else falls for his act.

Thank you for letting us know what happened.

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. And to have had to deal with the charlatan who offered false hope…ugly, very ugly. I am guessing he charged your family a hefty sum; will you accept a donation from my family to help you recoup those $$? I’m a lover of dogs and this breaks my heart.

Very sad, but I do agree that Missy probably died peacefully and certainly knew she was loved. This doesn’t mitigate your heartbreak, I understand. By the way, I googled Harry Oakes and found that his Web site is no longer up. Hmmmmm.

I am so sorry for your loss. It makes me so mad (and shedding a tear for you) to hear about the extra heartbreak and anxiety you have endured from this scam artist giving you false hope. I am glad you have some closure at last and that Missy is at peace. Sending your family hugs. I am going to go hug my sweet old dog now.

quesera, I’m sorry for the loss of your beloved companion, and for the extra hurt your family experienced.

I hope that other people will find your warning about Harry Oakes’ canine search service. Here is more on him: http://tdn.com/business/local/checkered-past-follows-search-and-rescue-worker-to-longview/article_2737e7c1-8d59-533a-8589-7da052ca7c11.html

Thank you all for keeping an eye out for her! The animal control officer who collected her was also very nice and sympathetic. I didn’t personally talk to the neighbor who found her, but hopefully it wasn’t too distressing for them.

I think I’ll put this guy on Yelp, so at least if someone google searches for reviews, they will find something.

I too am so sorry for your loss and also followed every few days to see the ‘FOUND’ or ‘REUNITED’ updated that we all LOVE to see on the pets page. I wish I had informed you earlier of contacting Animal Communicator Joy Turner,(I’ve put her info. here before), she is for real and works with Spirit/ God so she does not take advantage of folks-(karma anyone?). She can tell you though what Missy has to say on how she passed and around when. I’ll bet that besides her main purpose in life was to love you, but most likely her last assignment was her passing to mean something with what you encountered from the scammer to teach and help others to not encounter him again. She probably is very proud of you from the other side(Rainbow Bridge.. you’ll get a lot of those condolence cards now!), for letting others know. Not trying to be unkind or morbid, but did SAC let you know how far decomposed she was? She might have felt her time, and ‘left’ you shortly after you last saw her. Joy’s ph# for a phone session is: 1(360)894-5000. I appreciate your heads-up to the rest of us. I hope Missy visits you in your dreams.

quesera, I’d like to talk to you about this. I don’t know of a way to send private messages on here, but I sent you a private message on yelp. Thank you!
