CMPParticipantI noticed last night as I drove from the Morgan Junction towards Alaska that there are No Parking signs all along California for this weekend (9/13-9/14). Some are for Saturday, others on Sunday. Does anyone know what’s going on? I did a quick search figuring this was already discussed but didn’t see anything. Hopefully SDOT won’t be out doing their parking study this weekend…LOL! Thanks!

AlParticipantI ‘think’ this is for painting “sharrows”… or bike lanes…? Sharrows more likely.

CMPParticipantI’ve already seen sharrows painted. There are a bunch of small white lines marked along the street about the same width as a car from the curb, but I don’t know what they could be for. I guess we’ll find out Saturday.

vbseattle1MemberCMP, I noticed those too this morning between about Spiro’s and Charlestown – wondered what was going on Saturday that I should be aware of? Hope the streets aren’t closed off so I can get out of my apt building :-)

WSBKeymasterAs posted yesterday, the parking study is now off till later this year.
I wish I’d seen this sooner (I did look at the forum a couple times today but somehow missed this thread) … I would have called SDOT to ask … they are now gone for the day. (Don’t hesitate to e-mail me in addition to trying to “crowdsource” here, I often check on things that don’t even ever result in stories, they’re just things people ask me about, in hopes we can find out, and often … though not always … we can)
Best hope is if someone in the area got a flyer, since they generally only leaflet very close in, and sees this. Otherwise, there’s been sidewalk work, paving work, that area has those townhouses just south of Bohemian/Prost so there could be utility work for them …
Actually, maybe nearby residents weren’t even leafletted. Four no-parking signs turned up in my own block here the other day. No hint of what it was about. Turned out the new neighbor was having a gas line routed to his house. – TR

WSBKeymasterwe just drove that stretch after checking out a fire call … to the right of the sharrows all along calif there’s roughed-in dotted line, I would bet dimes to dollars it’s some sort of striping to follow up the sharrows. anyway, i’ll be out relatively early to get ready to cover the start of the gateway cleanup so i’ll drive the whole length and post whatever i find (so people at one end know what’s heading their way from the other!) … TR

WSBKeymasterFor anyone who is still wondering … I didn’t have time to post separately but while en route to the Gateway Cleanup kickoff (first post just up, the Earl Cruzen Day declaration was a nice moment) I noted that indeed, the dotted placemarker lines on the west side of California had all been replaced by nice new lines – solid between intersections, broken just before, after, and during. So it’s “just” striping. Noticed a fair amount of people didn’t seem to have heeded the no-parking signs, I guess the city work crews manage to get around them … TR
