Friends in other large towns tell me that their cities offer one or two bulk trash pick-ups for residents each year. I’ve checked the various city websites and can’t find anything. Do we have this service in Seattle? TIA.

In years past, I’ve received a coupon in the mail for a free trip to the dump. So you have to haul the bulk trash yourself.

The coupons come in the spring. I’m not sure if it’s a yearly thing or not.

They stopped sending coupons a few years ago. I inquired and was told that they were offered as part of a grant that had expired.

We still receive these coupons for trips to the City Dump, it comes every Fall and again in the Spring. We hauled a bunch of items from our house and acouple neighbors just this past Fall.

I loved inorganic rubbish pick-up day when I lived in one of those cities two states south of here. As a renter we never got the notices of the actual date, but it was easy to figure out when each driveway was suddenly filled with great mounds of junk, and then the scavengers would drive around in their pick-ups salvaging whatever they could. It was a mess for maybe 24 hours and then, poof, gone. It was a very helpful amenity…sadly one that Seattle doesn’t offer. I haven’t seen city dump coupons and have lived in WS nearly six years. I wonder if I’m recycling them as junk mail…?
