WestSeattleJenMemberI am looking for a good BMW mechanic. Am tired of paying the high prices at BMW Seattle. I have a 2006 M3 that needs a new battery. Any suggestions?

skeeterParticipantI am not mechanical at all — but a battery replacement is pretty straightforward. Wife’s Mazda 3 needed a new battery so I (1) watched a couple youtube videos then (2) removed battery then (3) caught a ride to Costco then (4) bought new battery and handed in old one then (5) installed new battery. Unless there is something special about a BMW, a vehicle battery replacement is conceptually the same as a battery replacement in your TV remote control.
That being said, of course proceed however you feel comfortable. I don’t know any BMW mechanics.

snaParticipantThere is something special about BMWs. They have a memory about the battery age and apply different voltage/charge based on the age. Not resetting the memory may cause you to ruin the new battery quickly. At least this is the case for my 2008 model.

montanapupParticipantBarnecuts on Admiral. Was just talking with him yesterday about BMWs and he has the diagnostics and know how. Give him a call. He’ll tell you if he can’t.

biankatParticipantMy husband takes ours to a place in Issaquah near his work. I can find out its name if this is an area of interest.

We just had a bunch of work done on my wife’s, and it was about 30% less than BMW Seattle. Really nice folks too.

WestSeattleJenMemberThanks everyone for the information. Issaquah is a bit too far for me to travel, but I will check out the other three. For what it is worth I agree with sna–these Beemers are finicky! This is why I LOVE West Seattle–such helpful folks!

HunterGParticipantOh my my my…. I have just found the best German mechanic ever! No really, ever. His name is Shane and the shop is called Stones German Garage in ballard. He is wonderful, the staff is wonderful, they are honest and gracious. Check out the yelp reviews, they are spot on and I will never take petunia anywhere else.
