sunnyskyParticipantCan anyone tell me what it’s like to donate blood at the Bloodworks Northwest pop-up site at the LDS Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gym on 44th Ave?
I’m especially interested in Covid safety: does everyone wear masks? is it crowded? is it well ventilated?
Due to the FDA recently lifting one of the travel deferral rules, I’m eligible to donate again after many years of not being able to. But I’m a little nervous and would like to hear from someone who has been there.January 10, 2023 at 2:34 pm #1054271
HomebrewParticipantI can’t speak for the facility, but I gave blood today at one of their offices and they require masks for everyone.

aaParticipantGive them a call and ask or stop by and take a look. You are the only one capable of assuaging your concerns.

newnativeParticipantPart of the problems with the reduced pop-ups is due to the measures they take to keep things as safe as possible. They have to really vet the mobile locations and make sure there is space for distancing and disinfecting. In the middle of the pandemic, I donated at a pop up and it was very reassuring. Now that I’ve resumed working in the City, I have resumed donating at the Central Office.

Karen BParticipantI donated there yesterday and have also donated at some of the earlier West Seattle pop-ups. I’ve never seen any issues as far as Covid safety that would concern me. Everyone is fully masked and the staff seem to be especially careful. The room is huge with high ceilings. Each person who has come to donate has plenty of space for social distancing from others who are donating. It’s not crowded – maybe 5 or so people a at a time – and everyone has to have an appointment, so there are no walk-ins. I feel much more comfortable in this setting, as opposed to all the other many places that I need to go in which people don’t mask or pay attention to personal space.

trice51ParticipantThank you to those who donate, I am so grateful. I went through chemo therapy last year at Fred Hutch Cancer Center(formerly SCCA) and needed several blood transfusions as I had low blood counts. Saved me!
Before this I always thought blood donations were just used for emergency care in ER’s. Grateful for your donation.January 17, 2023 at 1:24 pm #1054722
swParticipantI have been donating at the LDS site for a while and as recently as last week. They do ask that you schedule appointments in advance so as not to have people hanging around in the space. Everyone is masked, and there is adequate social distancing throughout the process. While we all have different comfort levels, I felt safe in the environment – likely as safe as you’d feel at any donation center.
