Just wanted everyone who might be going to Alki tonight to be aware… My teenagers that attend WSHS told me they weren’t going to the beach tonight because supposedly there are going to be a group of thugs looking to mug people. I don’t know how credible it is but it was enough for them and their friends to change their plans. If you do go down there just be extra aware as I know there will be a lot of families celebrating. Hope everyone has a safe and fun night!

BonnieParticipantI think similar things like that happen every year around the end of school, it’s sad to say. I try to avoid Alki the first few days out of school.

WSBKeymasterIt’s actually been fairly quiet so far, knock on wood. The only mugging attempt we’ve heard of was in the past half-hour or so in the Luna Park area. I checked out Alki a couple times before and during sunset and the crowd did not seem to be at the classic crowd level … maybe this “rumor” kept some away. – TR

…Saturday night around 10pm, across from the ferry dock by Lincoln Park there was a small gang of 3 or 4 teenage boys beating up on another teenage boy. I heard him yell for help and dialed 911. As soon as the police got the info and were on their way, I ran down to see if I could help. As I got there, somebody pulled up in a car and all of the kids – including the one being beaten up – piled into the car and it drove off. I gave the license # to the cops when they showed a few minutes later. They said they’d keep an eye out for it and for any kids showing up in emergency rooms.
Never heard another thing about it.

WSBKeymasterI heard that on the scanner and it did dead-end. No reports of seriously injured people turning up at the hospital.
