wakefloodParticipantBoy, you have to really not give a damn about truth when you publish easy to debunk crap like this article about how the $15 minimum wage is killing the restaurant industry in Seattle.
Good lord even the Seattle Times – who no doubt would have LOVED to find it true – slapped it down as lies.
So, can we finally stop quoting the American Enterprise Institute on ANYTHING it “reports” about? They have the integrity of slime mold.
And let’s not cut those hipster “Seattle” magazines any slack either. Those things are barely disguised paeans to the local Kardashian cultural “elite”. (Although, I must say, it’s not hard to defang them when you see them. Just give them a pocket mirror or ask who they’re wearing and they won’t even notice you’re gone for an hour.)
But seriously, $15 min. wage isn’t killing anything, save a few sacred cows of the right.

acemotelParticipantReally good article. I kept thinking about district 1 candidate Montoure.

JanSParticipantace…it’s good to know where people stand…makes decision making easier when it’s time to vote. Mr. Montoure will have to live with his opinion.

SmittyParticipant“But seriously, $15 min. wage isn’t killing anything, save a few sacred cows of the right.”
In all fairness, how could it? It hasn’t even been implemented yet, has it?

JanSParticipanttrue, smitty, true. Love all the articles lately about how it’s negatively affecting restaurants, even though it hasn’t happened yet. I keep thinking “No. maybe you’re just a crappy restaurant” – lol

JanSParticipantthere are lies, and there are lies…a famous politician just said this recently “If every politician were held to everything they said in a political campaign, obviously that would be a topic of long discussion,” McCain said.”
I guess we need to listen wisely…

HMC RichParticipantThat was a good article. Nice to see someone checking on whether the narrative was true or false. I do not know of any restaurant closing up due to the rise in minimum wage.
I do think you will find in the future regarding certain restaurants a trend to close because of the ACA and higher wages. I think the better business people will survive just fine. Others won’t but who is to say they would not have closed anyway? Like JanS said, “maybe you’re just a crappy restaurant”
In England the restaurant workers make much more than here. The service is not quite as good but you still get your food or ale. Tipping isn’t expected there for the most part.
