I was walking the dogs in this neighborhood today and discovered a mint green house with purple shutters that is round like a silo. Does anyone know the history of this house? It looks like someone is working on fixing it up. I think it’s really cool!

If you plug the address into the King County Parcel viewer you can see pictures of what it looked like when it was built in 1912. Didn’t have either silo structure. And when it was photographed the last time the front silo wasn’t there.

Definitely is an interesting-looking house. I can’t really say I know very much about its history. But I did respond to a fire call there back in May in which the men and women of Ladder 7 fought a fairly persistent chimney fire. Patrick and I were covering another news event that morning so it was several hours later before I could file my pictures. It was old news by then so TR didn’t end up running anything. But the house certainly stood out.

Bleh, don’t like it. I have to admit I’m a total square (uh, in this case, literally). I just don’t have an appreciation for abnormally-shaped-odd-colored things. Give me beige colored square walls and I’m there. P.S. May be hiring interior designer who can break me from beige-colored-square-walls syndrome soon. :-)

I wasn’t sure whether the house gogo was talking about was the one I thought might be it, but Christopher’s shots are the house, I’m pretty sure, I know just a tiny bit about.

I have a friend who lives down the street and if it is the same owner as about a year and half ago, the man who lives there does all the work on the house himself in periodic bursts. The house belonged to his parents and is where he grew up. Now, he lives there (or did a year or so ago).

The person I know lives down the block, also in the house *his* parents raised him in and now *he* lives there. Really old West Seattle on that street. Since I’ve only been in WS for 8 yrs., my friend had some cool stories about how the area *use* to be and who was around then (45-50 years ago).

Makes me wonder how common it is for folks to pass on houses to kids who actually *live* in their childhood homes. Two, at least, on that block and a half, so maybe not as uncommon as I may have assumed. Arguably more common than turreted castles. ;)

I know several of my neighbors have been in their homes on this street for at least 30 years. It is, indeed, very old West Seattle here. And a bunch of the nicest people I have ever met.

I went by the house again last night, just to make sure I wasn’t being too hasty with my original comment. I think it actually does look a little better than it did a few years ago, but it is hard to notice small changes when you are that close to them. Kind of like coming back from summer vacation when you were a kid – the people you didn’t see for those three months seemed very different, but the friends you hung out with all summer didn’t seem to change at all.

dood — I had the pleasure of owning my parents home in WS that I was raised in. They bought it when my mom was 6 months p.g. with me and I bought it from them when they moved out 30 years later (after owning my first home elsewhere in WS, but still on the same street).

Finally sold it just 3 years ago, still drive by and miss it, but was getting too small for our growing family. How it was always impeccably clean with a family of 4 (only 900 sq feet) I’ll never know, my mother was a wonder!!!!
