It would be “nice” if our elected public officials face the same level scrutiny of people in certified positions that ordinary workers are subject to. Little things like background checks, physicals, drug testing, recertification, etc… They enjoy benefits that we would love to have like decent retirements, health plans & other benefits.

Anyone missing an ErgoBaby carrier? I found one on Delridge, right by the community center. It’s a little dirty, but a run through the wash will make it like new! If it’s yours, send me an email at christina . hahs @gmail .com with the color of the carrier and I’ll get it back to you.

newnative, one time around 25 years ago, I was coming back to West Seattle in my ’67 VW Beetle that had the factory sunroof (which I pretty much always had open unles it was raining). I was eating a burger and fries, (yeah, I know), I think that was likely from By’s Burgers on 4th S.

Along the Spokane St viaduct between the 4th S and 1st S on-ramps that were there back then, the wind blew some of my napkins out through the sunroof. I tried to grab them but to no avail.

I felt bad because I would never litter and not only did it likely appear to the people in the other cars that I had done so but probably reinforced by them seeing my hand reach through the sunroof as I tried to grab them.

There are hiking trails I don’t go on anymore because so many people are leaving trash. The last time I did Rattlesnake Ledge I brought a garbage bag. It was full by the time I got back to my car. So gross.

I did smoke once upon a time, but not in my house because the smell gets into everything.

Jeannie, I would recommend Grun Tree Care.
    http://www.grunmeansgreen.com/

They did some work for me last fall, good work at a fair price. They are listed with both Plant Amnesty and the City of Seattle (for street tree pruning). They also gave me a senior discount, so ask for that if you’re eligible.

Unfortunately, I’m out of the loop on residential yard care, so can’t help you there. Maybe Grun would know someone?

Hi! I have two seriously overgrown trees (apple and cherry) in my yard. Can anyone recommend a good arborist – preferably one affiliated with Plant Amnesty? I can’t afford to spend a fortune on this, but it’s a priority for me.
ALSO, any recommendations for someone to clear overgrown bushes and other plants in my yard? The yard is small, but there’s also a lot of stuff (including invasive plants) to remove.
    THANKS!

I run a large ebay business from a warehouse down in SODO.

I am looking for a part time shipping assistant to work about 10 hours per week for $11/hour. We ship Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays, so you’d be working approximately 3 hours each of those days in the morning. Responsibilities include:

Pack boxes for the day’s shipments (good attention to detail)
Take boxes to nearby Office Depot to be shipped
Keep packing supplies and packing area organized
Place stock on the shelves as it gets listed online

Tasks will vary throughout the week with Monday typically being a big shipping day (about 30 boxes) and Wednesday and Friday being lighter, but allowing time to keep things organized.

I will train in how to effectively pack and use the ebay shipping system. You must have reliable transport, driver’s license, and be very reliable (the shipping has to get done). You will have flexibility in your hours as long as you can demonstrate you get things out on time.

As a bonus, if you’re interested, you’ll be learning a ton about how to run a successful ebay business and will receive lots of mentorship if you’re interested in that.

If you think you’re a good fit, please send your resume and a short paragraph about why you think you’d be great at this job to seattlemagpies@gmail.com

Our front and back yards were completely out of control / overgrown so we checked the blog for ideas and found Al Semple (almco@aol.com) He’s a hard worker who sticks with your gardening plan AND his prices are very reasonable. He’s also great about using natural, household items to eradicate hard to remove weeds or the occasional spider invasion (don’t ask – still having nightmares) And no mistakes about what needs to be removed as a weed and what cost a fortune at the nursery. Don’t be concerned that he works alone – you’ll be amazed at what he can accomplish in a few hours!

Thank you to all who’ve offered solutions. The non-washable items have been living on my deck 24/7 since returning home midnight on Friday and it does seem to be working, s-l-o-w-l-y, and I augment the process by whacking and sweeping them with a broom periodically.

Fabreez is a last-resort if they don’t ‘come clean’, and something I wouldn’t have thought of, thank you ‘good’.

JoB~You are correct, it’s WAAAAAAAY past time we start cleaning-up our own messes, but sadly a lot of us are left to take care of the mess left by the lazies and inconsiderates that roam amongst us.

Like grandma always said just before kissing me on the forehead…”Remember who you are and how you are being taught, and only do those things which will make me proud of you”.

    Grandma is watching!!!

We are so near the end of his term that i don’t know that resignation will matter..
but i suspect this is the end of his effectiveness and that he can kiss any political career he still thought he could build goodbye…

to be perfectly frank.. i think he could have gotten beyond rent boys.. very few straight politicians have been permanently derailed because they got caught with prostitutes.. of any age.. and i think that was basically the case he was well on his way to making when he blamed his victims…

but… accusations of abuse of your foster kid? that crosses the creepy line and enters into abuse of power… and i don’t think he can get beyond that.

I once bought a really nice winter coat at a rummage sale. When I got it home, I realized it was saturated with that nicotine smell. I had to hang the coat outside all summer to get rid of it. It did eventually deodorize so I could wear it.

Beckyjo – We talked earlier today about not listening to negative remarks made on this thread. Keep focused on helping your cat and disregard all the rest of the chatter.

Mehud7 had some great input. Keep this thread active (Bump it up several times a day) and don’t give up. :)

Why don’t you tell us a little about your cat.

anonyme…I am going to be very honest here…you must own a home…many of us do not. I have had rescue kitties all my life. I will no longer have one because I do live in an apartment, and landlords, for the most part, do not allow them. What would you expect this person to do…go live in a tent so she can keep this pet? You’d complain about that , too. The kitty’s owner is being responsible, and, I’m sure, is very sad at the prospect of having to rehome her pet/friend of several years. You didn’t wish her luck…you simply thought she was being irresponsible…we should be better than that. The world isn’t a perfect place, and I’m sure she is doing her best for this kitty. Maybe you should adopt this great kitty…make sure that it has a great forever home. Have a nice Sunday, anonyme.
