    Thanks for the tip CarDriver.

Northwest Art and Frame did a fantastic job on a custom framing for me recently, but I was hoping to put a few extra bucks in a local artist’s pocket for this job.

I have a Merlin app that can identify birds by their call. A few days ago it picked up on an American Barn Owl. I googled and found that someone had a sighting in Schmitz park in 2020. I also see a comment in forum about an 8 year old getting scratched in Lincoln Park.
It was in the morning when my app heard it. I do feed the birds so, I have a lot of birds and squirrels.
I guess the Barn owl eat small rodents but also can die if people try to exterminate rats with poison.

I live down by Delridge on Brandon and feed the birds. Kind of curious if others have seen one. Thanks. JRH

    Hiya and good morning!

So here is my ideal situation…Might as well ask!

~You are a person that LOVES dogs, but currently does not have one.
~You work from home M-F and are an early riser.
~You are flexible in that this wouldn’t be a weekly ask, just when traveling opportunities take dog’s mum away from her.
~You have knowledge and experience in caring for animals.
~You want to make some extra $$.
~You are a good communicator and reliable.

I am looking for a person that my dog can stay with during the day for various length’s of time (days in the week). Meaning…when I am traveling, my partner would bring our dog to you on his way to work (early) and then pick her back up around 4:00 on the days he goes to work M-F.

If you are interested in talking more about what this could look like…Please write back!

    Thanks so much!!!

I’ve been trying to work out who owns a particular house in the States, mostly out of curiosity but also because my cousin is thinking about making an offer on a small place in Florida. In the UK it’s fairly straightforward with the Land Registry, but the US system feels a bit fragmented. I’m wondering how people usually go about this without hiring a solicitor straight away. Is it realistic to find reliable ownership details online, or do you always hit a wall unless you pay or know where to look?

In reply to: West Seattle Hum

    WSB
    Keymaster

Hi! Thanks for asking. Years ago, we covered a neighborhood group solving the mystery of what at least at the time was the source of a hum – you should be able to find many stories searching our archives (or search Google on the term “west seattle hum” and “westseattleblog.com”). At the time, it was traced to the vacuum systems used to unload dry-cargo ships on the Duwamish. In the years since, every time we got a note asking about a “hum,” I would check a ship tracker and sure enough, there’d be a dry-cargo ship in on the Duwamish. When I first read your note earlier today, I looked at vesselfinder.com and noted two dry-cargo ships on the river. Without further investigation, of course, we can’t say for sure that’s what you’re hearing, but it’s certainly been a past culprit. Hard to do with a baby, I’d imagine, but next time you feel it’s really loud, you might even consider driving down to West Marginal and seeing if you hear it from a particular plant – TR

I’ve seen these posts and comments for about 20 years. I wonder what the disconnect is? Maybe it is the phone/being inattentive. Owners are required to be in control of their dog but dogs bark like crazy in yards all around me. There is a law against it, same with scoop violations, and leash laws. Please train your dog or go to obedience school to curb the barking. Dogs aren’t plug and play or buy it then that’s it. There’s more to pet ownership and the shelter or kennel or pet store isn’t explaining it to new owners. The lack of city enforcement sends the wrong message.

He sounds like one of the nice folks people are always saying that live here. Thank you for calling out the health code violation. It’s basically up to us. I have tried to work with various PCC managers and the Health Department. No one who works there (or any other grocery store or restaurant) wants to deal with it. It’s a violation if a health inspector sees it but not serious enough to affect operations. I’m sick of entitled pet owners and weak to no enforcement. Dogs are just one example. I’ve been rallying against it and scoop violations since 2010 when I was bit by an off leash (illegal) dog at a play structure (also illegal). The problem just got worse during the pandemic with more pet ownership and zero enforcement because Animal Control officers were only focusing on neglect/abuse.

    Hi neighbors,

There is an injured seagull at the boat ramp near Cormorant Cove. The bird has an injured wing and cannot fly and is currently hiding around the boat ramp and surrounding rocks.

I have already spoken with PAWS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Snohomish, and they will accept the bird, but they are unable to retrieve it. They recommended posting locally to see if someone is able to safely capture and transport the bird to PAWS.

I am unfortunately out of town until Sunday and will take the bird myself then if needed, but I’m concerned it may not survive that long without help.

If you have experience handling birds or are willing to help transport, please reply here as soon as possible. I can share exact location details if needed. The bird has stayed near the boat ramp, surrounding trees, and rocks for shelter.

Thank you so much for any help — truly appreciated
