This is going to sound like a dumb question, but here goes. I saw this mentioned on one of the articles on the blog, and was embarrassed to ask there.

Is it true that most of the “parking” in condos and apartments is for show only, and can’t really be used to park cars?

I understand that under city law the developers or owners of the buildings don’t have to provide a space for every unit. But I didn’t realize that what they do provide was unusable.

I might be interested. I have a stand alone garage with some room. It needs to be cleaned out (my stuff moved to one side, a carpet removed, some items to the dump) so curious about your timeline.

I’ve used All American Chimney at a few of my rental properties with good results each time.

The cleanings run a little more than $100 depending on the site. The only repair job I’ve had them do was $2,200, but was some substantial work.

At one property they suggested that we extend the chimeny 17″ to obtain a better air-draw, and after consulting a few people we decided to go ahead with their recommendation, and since then the tenants RAVE about how much better the air-flow is in their home when the fireplace is in use.

With the exception of having to deal with the less-than-stellar customer service provided by the woman who runs the office (have some patience prepared whenever you call) I’m truely happy with with their work. Sorry, no phone number handy.

    Hi!
We moved away and missed home (West Seattle) so much we are coming back. If you happen to have a garage about 200sq ft you would be willing to let us rent for a few months it would be a huge help until we get resettled. No in and out everyday, just storage of furniture and household stuff. We own a home in west Seattle, but don’t want to be jerks and displace our nice tenant family, so we need a place to put our stuff while we figure things out.

If you might be interested please post here and I’ll reply with my phone number. Thanks for your consideration!

I recently moved and this was the cheapest and best option I found. I had upack drop a trailer of in front of my place and hired a couple people on movinghelp.com to help load/unload on each end. To minimize cost I had them help with the furniture and big stuff and I finished up the small boxes myself. Upack is great because you only pay for the amount of trailer you use and they drive it from point a to b. Was cheaper than renting a truck for me.

Philly is a great town! Good luck!

    This is Sad.
Normally I would thank you Liberals for giving us the “non-infected” a view of what the Liberal mental illness really looks like but in this case this is our schools we are talking about. Our Kids! Our Future!. The fact that Liberals pretend to care about our kids but use them strictly as pawns in a political game is .. like I said.. Sickening ! If Sick Ideology of Liberalism had a soul you would understand and be embarrassed.

There is absolutely NO better example of how sickness of Liberalism has completely infected our public schools than the disgraceful announcement yesterday by the “ Great ?? “ State of New York. A prime example how the religious like devotion to a sick ideology Trumps ( I knew you would like that ) our childrens education. How Liberals truly don’t give one damn !
Yes, The Great State of New York announced that they would be dropping the requirement for their TEACHERS to pass a Literacy test. Yes, you heard me right. Their “TEACHERS” to take and I am assuming to pass a LITERACY test because a disproportionate amount of Non-White teachers couldn’t pass the Literacy test.
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME !
Teachers not being able to pass a Literacy test ? Only in the sick liberal mind could that possibly make any sense. ??

So, rather than require TEACHERS to be LITERATE ( I can’t believe I have to say this ! ) and meet some basic standards of education before they attempt to teach our children which will provide the basic foundations for their future and the future of our society. Liberals will gladly sacrifice our childrens futures by dropping the LITERACY requirements. Yes, drop the LITERACY requirements ( I still can’t believe I am saying this ) for teachers rather than accept the fact that for some reason minority teaching applicants might need to work on and refine their basic LITERACY education before they teach our kids. TRUE NEGLECTFUL INSANITY !
Gee.. Why would anyone CHOOSE to get the Hell out of that system ? . Oh wait.. OBama, Biden, Pelosi and ALL the rest DID. They send their kids to private schools. Hmmmm?

It is more important that Liberals keep up the appearance of not being racists than our children be given the best education possible. The truly ironic thing about this is the fact that Maybe.. Just maybe. the reasons why these minority teachers can’t pass the Literacy tests ( I still can’t believe I am saying this..) is because their lack of ” Literacy ” education came from the same FAILED educations system. So, the state of new York is fighting to pass on the legacy of illiteracy ? OMG !

I truly HOPE TO GOD that the same mental infection dosen’t permeate our nations life guard institutions this summer. Because under the same sick liberal Ideology if minority life guard applicants couldn’t pass the basic swimming tests to become Life guards then Liberals would certainly suggest to just drop the swimming requirements test ? Right ?
Yes, rather than help those that can’t freak’n swim we are just going to ignore the whole thing and then act all shocked & horrified when people drown.
Let’s see how many liberals would take their kids to that pool. SICKENING !

I’m over 40 and have an auditory processing issue, so background noise can be very distracting/painful. (have had this forever before I knew it had a name) I have had problems with even quiet music in restaurants so I think I would notice if it were common here in West Seattle. It’s not, imo. I grew up in California where it seemed to be more common and annoying.
What is a problem are certain types of people that talk loud in high pitches.

Thank you for the suggestions about what I might be hearing.

I looked online for recordings of nightjars, and didn’t find any recordings that resemble the sound I hear.

Typically I hear these sounds a couple times a week, between 7pm and 10 pm.

I don’t think it’s a drone. Well I suppose it could be, but I’d have to embrace a certain sort of paranoia to believe that a drone is circling my house over and over. Whatever I hear, it is making fairly tight circles.

I know that Merlin are primarily diurnal. But Peregrines were also supposed to be diurnal, and have recently been recorded with nocturnal prey. I am near a street light, and wonder if falcons might be opportunistic.

I am familiar with gull noises during the day. Are gull noises at night significantly different? This doesn’t sound the same as daytime gulls. Also, the flight circle seems smaller than gulls.

The killdeer is an interesting idea. Could be that bird, (or another) who has been disturbed and flies in circles making noise for awhile. I will listen more carefully.

Would love to hear more ideas, or other observations. What chirps while circling rapidly over shore and land? Clearly I am only guessing.

I just remembered an incident on the bus to Arbor Heights this past week. A young man fitting that description was riding the #22 with an older woman who is a regular rider. They were not sitting together, and he was ranting about being torn away from a certain living situation and forced to go with her. She was clearly in over her head, and he was obviously struggling with mental health/other issues – angry and lost. I felt bad for both of them; it appeared to be an impossible situation. I had a rare temptation as I got off the bus to lean over and tell him that I could feel how much pain he was in, and wish him well. In a way I wish I had, but feared it might make him angrier.

It may have been someone else entirely. Either way, I wouldn’t feel guilty about not letting him in. The potential for something going very wrong is pretty high, I’d say.

I sometimes hear the chirps of a fast-flying circling bird over the beach in the evening hours, after dark. I wonder if you heard the same bird?

I haven’t identified my bird for sure, but I’ve listened to many audio clips of birds trying to find a match, and what I have heard sounds very much like the bird sounds in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YnDEjr3_vg

    Is that what you heard?

Down by the salty’s side of alki, there was what sounded like a bird in the sky, circling over the land and water, over and over again. the chirp sounded electronic sounding (same exact sound continuously) and it was moving very fast from place to place. one second it was over the water, another by the hills. It was about 8:30 and it was too dark to see what exactly it was. Any ideas?

Tonight around 9:30pm a young man rang our doorbell and asked if he could sleep on our couch! This has not happened to us before and it was quite surprising. We live on 98th near Arbor Heights. He said his name was Zack and was just kicked out of his house “up the street.” He said our house looked like we had extra room, and thought maybe we could take him in. He had some packed gym bags ready to move in too. Description is early 20’s, black curly hair, about 5’9” and wearing a baseball cap. Part of me wanted to invite him in and help him out, but then there are too many stories of tragedy when someone does that. So I said no, cant help you. Now, I feel really terrible that maybe he was truthful, so had to write this. Please, does anyone recognize the description of the young guy above? He may still be around (98th St near 41st).

Thanks for the replies and advice.

The computer model is Lenovo AIO 700-22 ISH, with 2.9 Ghz Intel Pentium processor, 8 GB memory, and 1 TB hard drive. It runs well enough for my Internet surfing needs, but it runs slower than my old PC when working with desktop folders and documents. I know how to uninstall software programs, and I expect/hope the computer’s off-line performance will improve once all the bloatware (I’m looking at you, free trial of Microsoft Office) is gone. Meantime, my pressing concern is learning to use the unfamiliar hardware.

    Thanks again.
