I want to retrofit my 1950’s era home with either new double pane windows (including frame) or double pane glass inserts into the existing frame. Does anybody have a recommendation?
Me! Me! Oh please pick me! I am affordable, reliable, and love to clean houses, I was just about to put an ad out. I get off work early afternoons, and need the extra green stuff. We should get together on this but how?
We need just a very short stretch of fencing at the front of our property. Anybody have any recommendations? We received an estimate from Alki Fence Company, which by their name sounds like a West Seattle business, but the address on their bid is in Kent. Has anybody else used them?
If you go to the Mosaic website – http://www.mosaichomes.com/seattle – you’ll see that they now have a “Now Leasing” tab with 2 properties, and the “Coming Soon” tab is empty. They don’t even list the West Ridge Park (Gables) property anymore because that conversion did not finish – only part of the complex was updated.
I sense your passion Ken, but but please be polite, the personal jabs without really knowing where I stand is a little uneccessary don’t ya think? And you don’t expect me to say, “Yeah, this guy is right!” without checking out for myself do you? I wouldn’t expect that from you. I thank you for the info for us to look at, and I am glad that you have done a lot of research and have friends in lofty places so that you can be so sure that I am an idiot and that you are greater than I, but help me here, not poke at me. Obviously I am no expert in this area, nor come anywhere near having a card catalog and seperate rooms of information at my immediate disposal, so I don’t get the hostility. Be a teacher man. Note the only side I have taken here is the cautious, not sure, should find out for myself one.

SSCC is having a kindergarten fair to check out the schools. Of course the kindy teachers will be there but so will the principal of each school. You can go check it out.

Steve – more and more, each school has a special area of emphasis or a special feature, even at the elementary level. So you’ll want to ask about that, depending on what your little ones’ interests are evolving toward. We were just up covering a story at Pigeon Point Park next to Cooper Elementary, for example, last week, and were learning about the environmental/art special offerings there. Our son attended Lafayette for three years and we were greatly impressed with the principal, teachers, staffers, and parent commitment. In our role as WSB editor, we have met and corresponded with people from many schools around West Seattle, all of whom have a passion for and devotion to their schools. I hope more of them will find this thread in the coming days and tell you about the schools they know best!

Come up with some facts of your own if so. I have an entire card catalog of history texts as well as dedicated rooms of revolutionary period pamphlets and broadsheets in the Widner Library at Harvard, or the Dunster House Library at Harvard that indicate otherwise. I cannot afford to have the whole library copied, but if you were to even bother with a credible defense of your view, (and I could figure out what exactly that view is) I could have a friend in Cambridge go in and scan a randomly chosen month of publication which would disprove the theory of all innocent pious citizens.
Are you disputing that William Federer, Tim LeHaye or David Barton are not proven liars and quote manglers by the documents they themselves often cite? Do you need a breakdown of each and every occasion? I could probably do that with google and nothing but links in a couple of hours, but why should I? You’re obviously not interested in the empirical truth when it conflicts with you “faith based logic”. Besides I figure if you were really interested in the real history and how it compares with the revisionism of the above named stooges, you would have ordered the book by now.

It was scrapped. Hang on, I’ll pull up the links, we covered it a couple times. The same company also scrapped plans to convert West Ridge Park apartments on Delridge.
I was curious if anyone noticed the new sign advertising “Luxury Apartments” for lease at the Strata on California and Graham? I thought the apartment complex was undergoing a conversion to Condos, and I recall seeing them advertised as condos not long ago.
Now I’m not so sure. Does anybody know if the condo conversion was scraped, or was I simply making an ill informed assumption all along?
Still, in context, it doesn’t seem to make it any more true, though I am not saying that whatever person in Christiandom is writing is true either, when it comes to this. But lots of people can spin truth in the way they want it to be rather than what the author intended it to mean.

Your school is lucky to have you! The book cases should be easy and free! The district has a surplus website that the school staff has access to. They can either shop off the website for book cases, or call surplus directly (you must be a district employee to do both). Shopping off the website may take a long time, our PTA ordered book shelves in October and they weren’t delivered until April. I’m told calling directly with your pleas for supplies gets faster action. Good Luck, there should be tons of surplus with all the schools that have been closed.
We have 2 children, one currently a 1st grader and one a pre-schooler. Currently, they go to school in another neighborhood due to work and childcare but we are looking into moving them to a public school in W Seattle in the 2009-2010 school year. We are interested in both Sanislo and Gatewood at this point, but am open to other suggestions. Does anyone have any info about these two schools or others?

I have already sent my suggestions to the principal and will see what she says first regarding the school policy and personal information, dependening on what she says I will then ask the teacher and I have already offered my assistance to help gather this information, I will even type it up!! :)
I see what you means about now being able to laugh at your past concerns with middle and high school, however it is a different ballgame nowadays, especially with a merger of Denny and Sealth. Since our daughter moved up a grade and will be in middle school when she is 11 it does nothing to know she could be in a school with 11th and 12th graders, sorry!
The cultural differences I think is part of the reason for no directories at Roxhill, alot of the kids in our daughters class are Spanish.
I don’t believe that our daughter would be endangered at Denny or Sealth perse but agin all the influences with being at the same school of much older kids is scary, the drugs, smoking, sex, everything!! I am not trying to shelter her but sgain would like her to remain a kid as long as possible. I know that high school is a whole different ballgame but with only being 11 at middle school does not ease my concerns.
It has been along time for me too being in high school I am coming up on my 30th reunion and the schools and kids are so different then way back then!!
Solstice – If Roxhill does not have an instrumental music program, our school’s music teacher also works at several different schools and I’m sure could really use your donation. Let me know if it doesn’t work out for Roxhill!
Lattemom – if you can think of specific businesses that might be able to supply what you need, calling or stopping by (the personal touch) and asking usually works the best. Many businesses are being approached now (it’s school auction season), but I have found that a direct ask is usually the most fruitful! Good luck and lucky Roxhill to have a dedicated parent like you.

Two comments:
When my kids were at Lafayette a few years ago, they allowed a parent to create a class roster by sending a form home with the kids, asking for the information. But that works best if the teacher is supportive and will help remind the kids to return it. And cultural differences seemed to make some families suspicious of the intent. At least you might get some of their contact info.
Also, now that my children are high school/college age, I look at your concerns about middle school from a different perspective. I remember being terrified of those big kids as my eldest moved into middle and then high school. Now it seems funny to me as I’ve come to realize that they’re still just kids and fun to be around. I’ve had children at Denny, Madison, Sealth, and Garfield, and never had any significant problems between my kids and the other students. They laugh when I ask them if they feel endangered. They have enough “street smarts” to avoid threatening situations, just as I knew not to enter a certain restroom when I was in high school (a long, long time ago).
