I’m having the exterior of my house painted soon and I’m having a hard time picking a color. There is a house by Ercolini that I really like. What do you think is the best way to ask the homeowner if they know what color their house was painted or if they’d be ok with me comparing swatches to their walls. I thought about just knocking on the door but if someone knocks on my door I usually don’t answer if I don’t know them. I thought dropping a letter in their mailbox with my contact info…would you reply to such a letter? Any thoughts?

    Global Climate Models

Global climate models represent the planet as millions of grid boxes and then solve mathematical equations to calculate how energy is transferred between those boxes using the laws of thermodynamics. If done correctly, these models of how energy is cycled through all parts of the planet can be used to estimate dozens of environmental variables ( winds, temperature, moisture, etc. ). The models are tested by simulating historical conditions and then matching the results to our historical observational records. If the models can adequately recreate the past, they are then run forward in time to predict what may happen in the future.

    NOAA Science on a Sphere

As I understand it, the CMIP5 models were constructed and run somewhere around 2008-2010. If so, it seems that a vertical line should be drawn on the various charts on that year to indicate that everything to the left is hindcasting and only to the right is forecasting. Otherwise these charts seem to imply the models have decades of accuracy rather than decades of modification to fit known data.

One morning after having received a rash of these annoying calls I pressed, “one” and was connected to an individual who asked if a had at least ten thousand dollars in credit card debt. I assured him that I did. After a brief conversation about how he could lower my inerest rate sigmificantly he asked if we could get started by me giving him my card numbers and experation dates. I said it would take a few minutes to get all the info together and would he like to call back or wait. Smelling a sucker he chose to wait. So, I put the phone down went to the kitchen, poured a cup of coffee, took a few sips, checked my e-mail and the bird feeder before going back to the phone. Picking it up I apologized for taking so long and asked again if he’d like to call back. “Oh no, sir, I’m happy to wait”. So, back to the kitchen, check the blog, pour another cup of coffee, see who’s at the bird feeder, go out to the mailbox and back to the phone. OK are you ready to take down my numbers? “Oh yes sir”. was the reply. “You poor dumb s*** how stupid do you think I am to give out my accounts over the phone to a” CLICK. Doing that made me feel great!! However, there is a practical side to this strategy. If everyone would take up fifteen to twenty minutes of their time these scam artists could only work a max of four people per hour. At some point their operation wouldn’t be making enough money to continue and the scam would fold.

well, thanks to a bout of insomnia, I was able to find definitive proof that the corner structure was indeed a Starbucks Café. It’s not a photo, unfortunately:

    http://web6.seattle.gov/DPD/PermitStatus/Project.aspx?id=9803506

If you click on the address, it will take you to the permit page, which includes permits from the fire (March, 1997) forward.

I was went through the recorded deeds for the property; the liquor store is mentioned but there is no mention of any other business (there is a deed for something involving natural gas appliances, but a copy isn’t available.) I moved to MJ in mid-1992; I went to the Tway, which was only 2 blocks from my condo, only once — it was a nightmare for someone using a wheelchair. I vaguely ‘remember’ another small store besides the liquor store, but I might be thinking of the mini-mini-mall to the south.

btw, the MJ Tradewell opened ‘in its present location’ in May 1955, per a 1962 WS Herald article about the 500 lb. cake (made at MJ Bakery and transported to the TW in pieces) to be served to customers. Anyone remember Tradewell’s ‘Mr. Courtesy’?

Here are a few good examples of how a hip roof could and probably should be vented well. If you have some old standard square vents, there’s no harm in keeping those as well.

Did you get a license plate off that video?

Around X-Mas time someone dumped some opened letters on the street near my house on 24th Ave – the letters were out of mailboxes on 22nd Ave.

This morning when I left for work I noticed EVERY mailbox on the block was OPENED.

This area is not far from Highland Park.

Obviously we have a problem in this neck of the woods. Get locking mailboxes people.

    Damn whiners.

The caucus was paid for by the parties. The primary is a legacy of the Republicans panic when the religious right nuts took over the caucus system and nominated Pat Robertson. They put together a signature drive and created the “blanket primary”. Over the next few elections the Republicans became less enamored with the primary and used it less each year for delegate selection.

When the local Dems (who NEVER used the primary to select delegates) helped the crazier Republicans nominate Ellen “Jesus rode a Dinosaur” Craswell to the Governors race, the republicans had finally had enough and joined the Dems in a court battle to regain control of the nominating process for organized parties. The courts agreed. A last ditch effort to saddle the state with a “Louisiana primary” so demented that they don’t even use it in Louisiana anymore, was altered by the Line Item Veto (don’t you wish we had left that out of the Govs toolbox?) into what we have today.

    http://www.secstate.wa.gov/elections/pdf/2008PP/Nominating%20the%20President%20of%20the%20United%20States.pdf

So read the above history and remember to fill in the blanks in Sam Reed’s ideological memory.

Then go to the primary and vote for your choice. The TV pundits will still report it as if it is relevant.

If the expense bugs you, talk to the Republicans.
Any time they don’t use it for delegates, the legislators will cancel it and save us 7 to 9 mil.

And sign the “pledge”. It will probably get you on a mailing list at max.—- — me
