RSMemberWe were talking about the Planned Parenthood donation/card in honor of Palin idea on an earlier thread. Sorry, I forgot which one.
I like this as an addition or alternative if you’re into reproductive freedom: Donate $15 or more to Naral and they’ll send you a bumper sticker that says “McCain Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century” https://secure.prochoiceamerica.org/site/Donation2?idb=914366849&df_id=3781&3781.donation=form1

I have been cutting my own hair for years but I think I will treat my self to a haircut when the check for this exceptionally tedious research job comes in.
Note: The smell of smoke residue is not secondhand smoke.
I guess that makes me a degenerate eh?

bubblegummomParticipantDid you guys know you can look up a health care provider, including dentists, here: https://fortress.wa.gov/doh/providercredentialsearch/ and see if there have been any actions taken against them? I have found that a couple of West Seattle dentists have had actions taken against them for poor dentistry. It takes a lot of complaints sometimes for any action to be taken, and there is a number in Olympia you can call to ask if your dentist has any complaints against him. I can’t remember it, but probably there is an ask a question link on this site where you can ask about the number.

hopeyParticipantUh wow. I take it you didn’t read about the hard-working volunteers who cleaned up Camp Long. https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=10648
Maybe the folks putting in the hard work to clean up Camp Long got permission to cut down some half-dead or already fallen trees to make those benches. Maybe someone else (the owner of the pickup in the picture?) donated fallen logs for the benches.
Recycled plastic benches COST MONEY. Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and pay for the benches you think should be there? Are you even willing to show up and break a sweat at the next cleanup event, rain or shine?
It’s pretty rude to sit on the sidelines and criticize what others have gone through a lot of effort and planning to accomplish.

I’m still getting over having seen him make a cameo at the Dr. Demento performance we attended downtown earlier this summer. Since he wrote what’s considered to be the definitive biography about Steve Goodman, he was there to help introduce a funny Goodman video. Team WSB went to Dr. D not expecting to write about it here, since it wasn’t in WS, but because Clay suddenly appeared, we did:

PatrickKeymasterThe converter is a one-time-only purchase and you can find them at any of the neighborhood Radio Shack stores. You still need to hook the box up to an antenna of some kind. Locally the box only converts the over-the-air signals.
You can also go here and sign up for a $40 card that can be applied to the purchase of the box.

WSBKeymasterBridge Park is one of our newest advertisers (see ad on right sidebar, about where I am writing this post). They are about “independent retirement living” – you would have to inquire about specific medical needs.
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=10353
And re: The Kenney, also see the story I recently wrote previewing the major redevelopment they expect to launch in phases over the next few years.
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=9854
When I talked with the CEO Kevin McFeely, he explained they are working to evolve it along the “continuum of care” model that has become popular these days — you may go into a retirement community very independent, then have increasing needs ultimately requiring what used to be called “nursing home” care, but maybe you won’t have to leave that same facility/center. The Kenney also will open its first “memory center” (for dementia patients) as part of the redevelopment.

WSBKeymasterThere’s a writeup in the latest West Seattle Chamber of Commerce newsletter, though I can’t find that posted on the WSCC website. By the way we reported on the Kenney’s “green team” here in late July:
Betsy’s team is to some degree an outgrowth of a series of conversations that have happened over brown-bags at the Chamber office in recent months, nicknamed “Sustainable Storm” – we attended and wrote about one here:

September 10, 2008 at 9:53 pm #635574In reply to: Viaduct(s) & Bicycle Routing
AlParticipantI am sorry I couldn’t go to this meeting. But I’m glad someone brought up the bike question. Here’s what was said:
Q: All these projects are affecting bicycle commute, this has seen an increase like it has never seen before, do any of you have anything specific to say about the route between here and downtown for bicycles
JW: When it comes to viaduct replacement, all planning retains bicycle and pedestrian routes. When it comes to south end, when it is done and central waterfront, in the end product you will have much enhanced bicycle facilities.
SG: The main route downtown will not be affected. The bike lanes will remain as they are.
Not quite true. Bikes and auto traffic will be interacting more frequently and possibly with frustration. The main bike route from West Seattle directly crosses the detour route prior to Hanford, and bikes will have to merge into the ONE bike lane along Marginal/Alaska. There are no bike “lanes” just lane. The bike lane along Marginal/Alaska may indeed be shut down at times during the Alaskan Viaduct construction (in a couple years) according to the planning documents I posted above. Agreed with the improved bike facilities when it’s done, provided they don’t criss-cross active train tracks…
