Need Rec for Tree Service

We awoke to find our Honey Locust tree down in our back yard this week. I’m not sure why. I had noticed that some of the branches had leafed out and then died. We were going to take it at two others down this year anyhow. So, I need to find a service that can take down the other two. They are near our garage and the power line, so I’d like to have someone who knows what they are doing.

Anyone have any advice on who to use – or not to?

We had Out on a Limb (http://www.outonalimbseattle.com/) come take down a large holly tree, a hazel nut tree/shrub and trim several other trees. The were quick and efficient and knew what they were doing. Quite happy.

They are local WS based and the owner Mark Harman (aka Sawdust) is a great guy. I have not used them but plan to in the future.

Funny thing about the hedge, when ellenater came by to pick up an Obama/Biden sign she assumed we must have already cut the hedge though is was still in its officially OFFENSIVE state.

Though we’ve topped the thing and taken a bit more off the sidewalk side, the only appreciable difference is a bit more light in our back yard. I’m sure our anonymous complainer will be typing up reports again in a couple months!

I just had Stonehedge out to do some work, and they were great. Right on the estimate, friendly, actually cared about not trampling the other plants. My only criticism is that they took awhile to cash the check, but I’ll for sure be calling them back in the future.

A couple of years ago we had a fir tree and a volunteer birch, way too close to the house, huge and getting bigger every time I looked at them. I would look at the neighbor’s humongous fir tree on her parking strip and think, could we really have a tree that big here? Oh my G**, no! Plus the fact that my husband is mentally ill and in the winter, when the wind would blow, he would cry in fear that the trees were going to fall on the house. They just had to go.

I’m a person who gets more bids than I should, trying to find the cheapest, and Erik Nye the tree guy was the cheapest. He and his crew came over and took the trees down. He is fast, efficient, and it’s very entertaining to watch him work…many of the neighbors stood there enjoying the show. They did a good job on the cleanup, too.

Meanwhile, his associate Justin, the Tree Whisperer, went to work pruning a huge, long neglected cherry tree in the back yard. He cut a lot off of it, but didn’t want to take it down as short as I wanted it for the health of the tree, and basically because he didn’t want to kill the thing. He said in a couple years we could cut back more.

Now it’s a couple years and yesterday they came back. The Tree Whisperer seemed glad to see the tree again, and how healthy it is and the tons and absolutely TONS of beautiful, tasty cherries it had produced, due to his excellent pruning skills. After he pruned it shorter, many people had their fill of the sweet, juicy fruit.

These people are the best!

Another tip of the hat to Erik Nye the tree guy (206-384-1008).

We called Erik after reading some glowing reviews both here and on Yelp.com, and I’m sure glad we did. He was prompt, polite, and had a really great confidence and sense of humor about his job (which I found instantly endearing).

We made an appointment for a consultation at 2:30 on a friday to trim a magnolia and an alder that were touching our roofline. 4 hours later, we were reveling in the light filled yard that Erik and his crew had created for us. It was amazing! Erik even threw in stump removal for an extra $50. BONUS!

And after all the trees were trimmed up, they cleaned up all the leaves, and then proceeded to help my husband clean the moss off our roof and helped clean our gutters (which was great to do the day before a big rain). All of this at a price that was *well* below what I expected.

Plus, Erik’s got a pretty cool neon green dirt bike that he let my husband take a couple of laps around the neighborhood on.

We love Out On a Limb Tree Service. We’ve used them on both our WS properties for several years. They bid out well, know their arboriculture (good on advice), and work hard in all conditions. Only issue is that they are so popular that they’re usually booked a month out.
