Obama is campaiging for the general election right now becuase he knows he needs to start attacking McCain because the GOP party is starting to attack him. I dont read these editorials to reassure myself, but I post them here to edcuate the lurkers who read these threads.
Funny to how you refer to Obama losing in droves yet he is the one with more delegates won, the majority of the popular vote, and more contests won. What votes is he losing oh yes these are the only ones Clinton considers valid. And she is really someone I would be listeing to now. Again what a joke, but hey at least Clinton keeps me laughign away during my work day.
JoBParticipantbeachdrivegirl…
people are looking for the big race card…
and this time we are playing it by discounting anyone who appears racist.
It is possible to change the minds of people who say they won’t vote black if you show them doing so is in their best interests…
of course, to do that, you have to stop talking theory and talk actual programs that will benefit them.. something Obama is unwilling to do because to do so might lose him support elsewhere…
you might look at how black mayors have carried white racist vote in their cities…
It not only can be done.. it has been done.
unity isn’t just a buzzword you know. it means reaching out to ALL groups of society… not just those who resonate with the buzzword.
So.. keep on reading all that preaching to the choir editorials to reassure yourselves..
but you might still give it some thought.
The votes he is losing in droves in this primary might not matter in the primary… but unless there is a radical shift.. which could lose him his base.. they will matter this fall.
I wouldn’t be writing them off yet unless you want Obama to be the President who almost was… the president the nation didn’t step up to deserve…
worth actually thinking about…
JoBParticipantKayleigh..
it might help if he actually campaigned in the state and tried to reverse people’s image of him…
because it isn’t just about being racist.
one miner was surprised to learn after the election that Senator Obama had actually passed legislation protecting miners in Illinois…
that might have mattered to the miners.
it isn’t just about being racist, it’s about being valued…
he doesn’t need them right now.. so he didn’t bother.
Who would you vote for under the circumstances?
BTW.. in case you didn’t know, Hillary did campaign there.. extensively.

A great article on why this “loss” does not effect the primary.
beachdrivegirlParticipantDespite Obama’s loss last night. He has picked up not 1 but four superdelegats today! At this rate the 30% of the remaining delegates needed to end the race is very near.
And I dont think Walfredo was saying that W.Virginia doesnt count I think he was saying that W.Virginia is not picking this years president for two reasons. A) There primary yesterday made no signiifcant difference in the race and Clinton still has a less than 1% chance of being the nominee and B) They said in the polls that race will be an issue and Obama will be our next President so no (Since they wont vote for him) they arent having a say in this years election.
KayleighMemberJo, if poor white folks don’t vote for Obama because he is black, how is that Obama’s fault? How would you suggest he overcome that level of racism, beyond doing what he is desperately trying to do, which is rise above it?
Did you read the quote from a woman in WVA who said she thought Obama was a Muslim? When she was told he was a Christian, she said she didn’t believe him. WTF?
It’s time for Hillary’s supporters to get with the program and begin to support Obama in the general election. We Obama supporters (me included) who considered not voting for Hillary if she were to become the nominee were wrongheaded back then. Just as the “we’ll vote for McCain” contigent of the Hillary supporters is wrongheaded now.
We need *every* vote—every Republican swing vote, every Independent vote, every last Democratic vote. Because who knows what the right wing will throw at us in the coming months.

BernickiMemberI recommend Al Semple–we just hired him to dig all the grass and weeds out of our parking strip, and he did a fantastic job. Very hard-working and nice guy. He also weeds, mows lawns, just about anything you need. He’s here in West Seattle–in fact, he grew up here! Contact him at almco@aol.com.

charlabobParticipantDoes anyone know where/why they got their name? They do use a horse logo and I’ve always wondered — if you ever saw a horse “crash” at a track, you probably wouldn’t name your business after it. Someday I’ll stop and ask — right after I ask the guys at the rainbow house in my neighborhood what they were thinking :-)

PDHParticipantThey were also recommended by my insurance company after I was hit. They were able to work w/my schedule and they completed work on time. The work they did on my car was good. They also were able to drop me off back at my house after I dropped off my car.

McCain’s team…
folks you can be proud of…
“Two of John McCain’s senior campaign staff were forced to resign this week after revelations that their lobbying firm was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to represent Burma’s brutal military dictatorship.1
And it gets worse—turns out this goes all the way to the top. Charlie Black, McCain’s campaign chairman, ran a lobbying firm that represented brutal dictators like Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines and Mobutu Sese Seko in Zaire—along with terrorist rebel Jonas Savimbi in Angola. Together, these men have been responsible for massive human suffering.2
And for good measure, Charlie Black has represented war profiteer Blackwater Worldwide and Iraqi fraudster Ahmed Chalabi.3″

inactiveMemberI’ve tried to track down students to hire at SSCC, but I’ve never had anyone respond to any notice I’ve put up in the Garden Center. I always have assumed that someone else found the workers before me. But, I DID get a response and a good worker when I posted a job notice in the Student Employment Office on Campus.
I’ve always thought about just calling the Horticulture Department and just asking them directly versus putting a small note up on the bulletin board in the Garden Center, but I haven’t needed to lately. This was a couple of years ago anyway, so I’m not exactly certain what their current policy is about posting for help wanted.
Also, I’ve called THe Millionaire Club downtown and hired workers (a minimum of four hours time is required) to do basic weeding, yard work. Never had a problem with any of them. I;ve used the Millionaire’s Club ALOT.
Call the Day Labor # at 728-5627 on M-F between 6:30-2:30 and on Sat. 6:30-10. When I know I’ve got at least four hours of work for a guy, I will call them – usually pay a $9/hr rate (in cash – no checks) for yard work. But, I always give them extra money for lunch and a fat tip.
Also, Edmonds Community College has a horticulture program and I’ve gotten referrals from that Department as well – for designers who live here in West Seattle. Maybe talk to them too?
Good luck with those weeds!

JoBParticipantNew Resident…
i hear you.
I have come to believe that the reason that Obama supporters are always telling you what Obama meant instead of what he said.. and always attributing higher motives to him is that he has made himself such a blank slate that any supporter can see anything they want… He is all things to all people..
well.. almost all people:)
so if you say anything.. you are attacking their hopes and dreams.. not just Obama.
I am not saying that to be mean or dismissive of them.. It is a great way to inspire people and can be a good thing… but it is very hard to combat.
However.. having led you down the garden path of agreeing with you… I have to disagree.
Hagee and Wright are very similar circumstances..
Had Hagee’s church been close enough for Senator McCain to attend and held such political power where he needed it in his earlier career.. you can bet he would have attended his church… and sat week after week and smiled and nodded while the man spewed bigotry from the pulpit.
but not to worry.. Hagee apologized to the Catholics and the apology was accepted.. so there is reconciliation.. just ask McCain who takes credit for it… or at least for the appearance of reconciliation…
And Wright took his comments past the acceptable limit so Obama could repudiate him ..
all is well in the world. at least it looks that way…

i also had a problem.
sometimes it would post to the thread.. the number would change on the list.. but my name wouldn’t show up…
you had to read it to know there was a post:)
i decided maybe it was a good thing:)
JoBParticipantWalfredo…
LOL
of course West Virginia doesn’t count. You wouldn’t want any President those folks elected… they mostly aren’t college educated whites or blacks… they couldn’t possibly know what’s good for them…
you still don’t get it do you?
Those are the people who swung George into office.. you best hope they would vote democratic…
after the way you put them down. there is probably no reason for them to.. but all the same.
you don’t need all those old ladies or poor white folks do you ;->
then again.. maybe you do.
Still predictable. Still boring.

Kudos (NOT) to those people that have been looking out their living room window at this junk for 4 days now for pitching in to keep the neighborhood clean.

in forum WSB Reader Recommendationsjosie2006MemberI’m desperate for some help in my yard and am hoping to find someone to help me weed and spread mulch at a reasonable hourly rate. I just can’t afford any of the estimates I’ve gotten for others to do the whole job. A long time ago I saw a flyer for SSCC horticulture students for hire–does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks for your help.

May 14, 2008 at 1:10 am #586971Topic: keep an extra eye out for spam
in forum Open DiscussionWSBKeymasterI just killed the feature that I think was the culprit behind overzealously catching some posts – particularly ones with URLs in them, such as washingtonpost.com and nytimes.com for some reason – as spam. However, that may make this area more vulnerable to bonafide spammers, here’s hoping not, but please keep an extra eye out in the hours to come … we are heading out to a night packed with public meetings to cover and won’t be able to watch the forum spambasket (or main area) for a little while — thanks, TR
