jkboisonMemberWHAT CAN WE DO???
I live in the Westwood/Highland Park area right off of Delridge with my husband 2 small children. We have the worst renters that live across the street from us. They have been living there for about three years. There is so much activity at that house at all hours. I have no idea who or how many people live there because there are always different people coming and going. We heard multiple shots fired right outside our house twice within 5 days about 3 months ago and we are convinced someone from the house was involved. Of course we called 911 each time and I followed up to the police dept. to request extra patrols. Our street and sidewalks are always badly littered with garbage because they clean out their cars by throwing all their fast food garbage out in the street. Their back yard has about 12 broken down cars in it and they are leaving junkers in front of our house all the time. We call and report the cars abandoned often and they get tagged.
What can we do to take action and try to get these people out of our neighborhood?? We have been planning on selling this house and property that we love just to get away from the crime. With the current market we are considering staying in this house if the neighborhood would clean up a little and if we felt safer living here with our kids.
Is there a Westwood/Highland Park crime or neighborhood watch action committee or something?
Any advice would be very appreciated!

AnonymousInactiveIs there any way to get in touch with the landlords?
May 18, 2008 at 5:15 am #624795
jkboisonMemberI have thought about doing that but I am not sure how to find out who owns the house or their contact info. I know the landlords purchased the house a little over 3 years ago and started renting to these people right away. I am pretty sure the landlord lives out of town.

AnonymousInactiveI think I would try and contact the landlord. Being a neighbor who is bothered by their renters seems like it would carry some weight. I, unfortunately, couldn’t tell you how to find out who the landlords are. Maybe, next time there is an issue, you could inquire with the police to find out landlord info?

AnonymousInactivejk, you can punch the address into this link and it will give you the name and address of the owner.

Highland Park Action Committee
Next meeting: Monday May 19th 7:00 PM
Highland Park Improvement Club
1101 Holden
Tell your neighbors (and I mean those who aren’t currently making you miserable ;) to join the meeting as well.
Hang in there. You will get lots of info from the City’s Department of Neighborhood representative and from the Southwest Precinct Community Police representative.
Have a good evening.

AnonymousInactivejk – That link that JT just gave works! We rent and I tried it and it pulled up our landlord’s name! Good Luck!
Thanks, JT!

JanSParticipantand, please, please, please….call the non-emergency police # 625-5011. We can’t say it enough on here…call them ! They want to hear from you !

JanSParticipantwhat I mean is…call them enough times that they get tired of …and they’ll look into it. It doesn’t have to be 911…

JimmyGMemberOne other thing you can do: If they have inoperable cars on the property you can file a complaint online with the city. The complaint process of getting an inspector out there takes awhile but it takes only a minute for you to file the online report.

AimParticipantjk I think we live near you. We’re also at the border of Westwood and Highland Park and would love to meet more neighbors. Email me at aimgrrrl at gmail dotcom if you want.

jkboisonMemberWe are thinking about chaining a trash can to the stop sign in front of our house. It is a high foot traffic area and people including our horrible neighbors are always throwing their garbage on the side walk and mow strip.
Has anyone else done this successfully???
